HARDY COUNTY SCHOOLS BREAKFAST AND LUNCH PROGRAMS

Collection Notices 

Hardy County policy on billing and collection states "Payment in full is expected by due date on the bill."  The due date is the 20th of the month.  Collection notices were mailed home in February and collection proceedings on unpaid accounts will begin in March 2017.    Delinquent accounts are pursued through the Magistrate Court and all fees are added to the bill.  In the past, the fees have ranged from $75 - $140 depending on the actions needed.  Avoid collection fees by paying the account in full or by contacing the Child Nutrition Office to arrange payments at 304 530-2348 Ext. 9223.

 Even though the WV Office of Child Nutrition is leading the nation in serving nutritionally balanced meals to its students, these same children still know hunger.   More than 1 in 4 WV children live in a household that does not have sufficient access to food.  60% of WV school aged children qualify for free or reduced priced school meals.  That's more than 173,000 children whose family household income is below or nearly below the federal poverty level.  Our children deserve to have their most basic needs met in order to live vibrant, productive lives.  We must end childhood hunger in West Virginia...that's where West Virginia Feed to Achieve will make a long-lasing impact!  For more information visit wvde.state.wv.us/feed-to-achieve/about.html

Community Eligibility Provision (CEP)

Moorefield Middle School  was added to the county's Community Eligiblity Provision with the 2016-2017 School year.  Moorefield Elementary, Moorefield Intermediate and East Hardy Early Middle Schools implemented the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) during the 2015-2016 school year.  Children at these schools are eligible to receive breakfast and lunch at school at no charge to your household.  Extra milk will be available for purchase at $0.25 each.  Parent/guardians are responsible for any meal charges owed from prior school years.  Unpaid accounts are subject to collection per Hardy County Board Policy.    

Breakfast Available for All Students:

The WV Feed to Achieve Act recognizes that an effective school breakfast program is not an interruption of the school day; it is an integral and vital part of the school day.  All schools are to offer an innovative breakfast program that not only offers breakfast before school starts, but also provides another breakfast service after the bell.  Students are only to eat breakfast at one of the meal times and the price for breakfast is the same for either service.

Free or Reduced Price Meal Information - Apply ANYTIME during the school year

Free or reduced price meals are provided for those who qualify at Moorefield High and East Hardy High School.  Applications for free and reduced meals are made available to these households prior to the start of school.  Households may apply online at   https://www.wvschoolmeals.net. If filling out a paper application, complete one per household and list all children in Hardy County Schools. It is preferred that applications be sent directly to the board office at:   Hardy County Schools, School Nutrition Office, 510 Ashby Street, Moorefield, WV 26386.   All applicants either online or by paper will be notified by mail of free, reduced or paid status. If you do not receive a letter within 10 days of applying, call the following number to be sure the application was received.   If you have any questions about applying, call the School Nutrition Director at 304 530-2348 ext. 9223. 

Households may apply or reapply any time during the school year if your household size increases or you have a loss of income. Eligibility for free or reduced meals does NOT excuse prior meal charges, so families should apply immediately if they feel they would be eligible. 

Meal Prices and Billing:

Meal Prices: Breakfast: reduced $0.30   full $0.80  adult $3.25   Lunch: reduced $0.40 full $1.55, adult $4.25,   Extra Milk $0.25 

Use our FREE Online website to manage your child’s(ren’s) account at www.schoolcafe.com. The convenience fee to parents has been eliminated so there are no additional costs to use the website. Set up e-mail or text alerts to notify you when the account exceeds your monthly credit limit. View meals purchased, payments received and pay by credit or debit card, if you choose.   Please contact the school cafeteria manager if you have questions regarding charges on your bill.   

Hardy County policy on Collection and Billing states in part: A breakfast/lunch bill is sent home with each child at the first of the month. Payment in full is expected by the due date on the bill. A bill is considered delinquent if not paid in full within 30 days of the due date and parents will be notified by mail. The collection of accounts will be pursued through the Magistrate Court.   Not providing appropriate funds for a student to eat or sending a bagged lunch, may be interpreted as child neglect by the authorities. Guests who wish to eat breakfast or lunch at school must first sign in at the office to obtain a visitor pass.  Adult guests must have the exact change available to pay on the serving line as cafeteria managers do not maintain a cash drawer and will not be able to make change.  Adult price - lunch $4.25, breakfast $3.25

 Identimetrics 

Hardy County Schools uses a point of service program for recording student meal charges either by manually entering the student’s ID# into the program or by taking a scan of the student’s finger to record the meal. The scanned image is NOT a finger print, and in fact no print can be recreated from the encrypted points. Parents will be notified if the scanner is being used at your school and those having concerns can contact the School Nutrition Director for more information. If a parent/guardian wishes to opt out of the scanner for their child(ren) then they should send notice in writing to the school’s Principal.
