following is provided as an unofficial summary of the above dated meeting of the
Hardy County Board of Education. Official

SUMMARY
The major focus of
the meeting was addressing the following personnel issues for the upcoming
school year.

MES.

Teacher (Grade 2) at MES to fill one-year of absence.
- Tara
Dearing: Countywide Teacher
for Special Education Gifted/Multi-Subjects/Multi-Grades.

Humphries: Special
Education Teacher, LD/BD/MI at MMS.
- William
Flint: Special Education
Teacher, LD/BD/MI at EHHS.
- Sandra
Kline: Supervisory Aide II,
Special Education, ˝ time at MHS.
- Patricia
Gapp: Substitute Teacher.
- Joan
Evans: Substitute Teacher.
- Jane
Carrick: Cook I at MMS.
- Heath

According to WV
State Code, within five days of the beginning of the instructional term, we
cannot allow Professional Educators to move for the remainder of the term unless
in the best interest of the students, and with permission from the State
Superintendent’s office. We will
be placing long-term subs in these positions for the remainder of the year.
In other action
the Board received an update on school opening for 2002-2003:
- A
report on the new teacher orientation held on August 19th.
- Update
on the summer work projects.
- Review
of the first day activities for staff on August 21st.
- Report
on the new insert for the Moorefield Examiner.
- Preliminary
enrollment projections.
The Vocational
Content Standards for the Middle School Vocational Agriculture were approved for
forwarding to the WVDOE.
Several student
transfer requests were approved.
Options for
providing a course in Electronics at EHHS were approved.
Mission Statement
/ Positives:
- Mr.
Williams: Thanked the County Commissioners for allowing the Board to meet
with them on the 20th and commented on the recent meeting of the
Moorefield CDC. Discussion of
the proposed Building Bond was very informative.
- Mr.
Funkhouser: Echoed the other
Board Members’ positives and commented on the completion of the major
projects at EHHS and MHS – bleachers and painting.
- Mr.
Park: Commended the EHHS band for their performance at the Corridor H
dedication. They did an
excellent job.
- Mr.
Fertig: Commended the Superintendent and Administrative Assistant for their
efforts in securing quality personnel and efforts to remain within the
funding formula.
- Mr.
Pack: Commended the
Superintendent, Administrative Assistant, and all personnel for the
tremendous efforts undertaken to prepare for the opening of school.
- Mrs.
Hammer: Commended everyone for
their assistance in the new teacher orientation. It went very well and was a great start for our new
employees.
- Mr.
Whetzel: Extended a
“future” positive to everyone for the success Hardy County Schools will
have as we begin the new school year. It
promises to be the best one ever.
The next regular
meeting of the Hardy County Board of Education will be August 26, 7:00 p.m.
