School Board Meeting
August
26, 2002 – 7:00 p.m.
The
following is provided as an unofficial summary of the above dated meeting of the
Hardy County Board of Education. Official
copies of the minutes may be obtained, once they are approved by the Hardy

SUMMARY
The Board was
given an update on the status of the Building Bond.
A review of the Bond Election Call and discussion of the Bond Campaign
was held. A proposed timeline was presented. A meeting was set for September 10th, 7:00 p.m. at
Moorefield High School Library at which all interested individuals will be
invited.
An update was
provided on school opening for 2002-2003. Information
was provided on transportation, staffing, and enrollment.
At this time enrollment is up over 20 students, not including students
listed as absent.
An update was
provided on the recent meeting with the county commissioners and the efforts to
organize an information sharing session with the Commissioners, RDA, and the
School Board.
Contracts for
extracurricular bus runs for the Vocational Center were approved.
Several student
transfers of students currently enrolled in Hardy County Schools, whose parents
have moved out of the county, were approved.

Mission Statement
/ Positives:

Williams: Commented on how much
he enjoyed the opening day staff meeting.
Noted that the school personnel were very excited and positive about
the start of the new year. Commended
Moorefield Middle School for the opening day and appreciated the opportunity
to speak.
- Mr.
Funkhouser: Commended the work
of the school system in having all personnel in place for the beginning of
the school year. Great work!
- Mr.
Park: Thanked the Board members for their work in preparing the meal for all
employees. It was well
received.
- Mr.
Fertig: Commended everyone for
their effort in getting school off to a great start.
Shared that his children were excited about returning to school.
- Mr.
Pack: Commended Chris DeVault
for the work in preparation for the new Character Education program.
Commended every school employee for the success of the opening day.
- Mrs.
Hammer: Commented on the
overall quality of the new employees – an excellent group of individuals.
- Mr.
Whetzel: Provided each Board
member with a “reward” from the new Character Education program at MMS.
Thanked the parents for their cooperation in the opening of schools.
The next regular
meeting of the Hardy County Board of Education will be September 9, 2002, at
7:00 p.m. at the School Board Office.
