Regular School Board Meeting
July 29, 2002 – 7:00 p.m.
The
following is provided as an unofficial summary of the above dated meeting of the
Hardy County Board of Education. Official
copies of the minutes may be obtained, once they are approved by the Hardy
County Board of Education, by contacting Jeanette Keller, Executive Secretary to
the Superintendent, 510 Ashby Street, Moorefield WV 26836, (304) 538 – 2348.
The Board reviewed the planning for the Bond Election. A work session is planned for August 26th to discuss formation of county committees, development of a speaker’s bureau, development of presentation materials, and scheduling of activities.
The Board received four polices related to Instruction that had been held due to state action. These will be put out for comment. They include:

Ø Extracurricular Events
An update on various new State Board policies were presented. New policies related to Attendance, Code of Conduct for Students and Teachers, and Evaluation will require revisions of county policies.
Discussion was held on the level of Special Education services, numbers of personnel, and needs. Additional information will be provided at an upcoming meeting.
Discussion was held on the status of bleacher repair at MHS and the need to have this project completed.
Public comment was received about the need for improved ground maintenance. The Board advised that the status would be monitored to determine appropriate actions.

Mission Statement Accomplishments:
Ø Mr. Funkhouser: Recently visited EHHS and noted the improved appearance of the gym and halls.
Ø Mr. Pack: Commended Mrs. Hammer for her work on keeping up on personnel and the providing of information on the new state policies.
Ø Mr. Fertig: Commended Delegate Michael and Senator Byrd for their contributions to Hardy County and support of Hardy County Schools. Recognized Mr. Funkerhouser on his recent selection as a Volunteer of the Year for West Virginia.
Ø Mr. Park: Commented on the recent Band Camp and its success. Students had a great learning experience.
Ø Mrs. Hammer: Commended the extra efforts of staff to participate in summer development activities. Many went over and above what was expected – and often at their own expense.
Ø Mr. Whetzel: Reported that Hardy County had the second best drop-out report in the state and that Moorefield High School had the second best school report. Congratulated everyone for their efforts.
The next regular meeting is scheduled for August 12th, 7:00 p. m., School Board Office.
