Regular School Board Meeting
July 22, 2002 – 7:00 p.m.
A review of the Alternative Scheduling workshops was provided. The Board approved a review of scheduling alternatives for all levels for the upcoming year. At the secondary level the goal shall be to develop a schedule that will permit additional elective choices for students.
In personnel the following actions were taken:
Employed:
Ø Janae Snapp: Transferred to Grade 3 Teacher at East Hardy Early/Middle School.
Ø Rachel Duling Rumer: Transferred to Grade 2 Teacher at Moorefield Elementary School.
Ø Daniel Boyles: Physics/Math Teacher at Moorefield High School and East Hardy High School.
Ø Ann Hodges: LD/BD Teacher at East Hardy Early/Middle School
Ø Henry Hodges: BD/Gifted Teacher at East Hardy Early/Middle School and East Hardy High School.
Ø Substitute Teachers: Robin Williams, Teena Harman, Thomas VanMeter, Fred Western.
Ø Judy Moyer: Substitute Aide.
Ø Mary Tompkins: Substitute Aide and Substitute Custodian.
Accepted the following resignations:
Ø Sheldon Sions: Bus Operator for South Fork route.
Ø Dennis Brill: Varsity Boys’ Basketball Coach at East Hardy High School.
Employed the following for extracurricular assignments:
Ø Steve Williams: Assistant Varsity Football Coach at East Hardy High School.

Ø Yvette Branson: Varsity Cheerleader Coach at East Hardy High School.
Ø Calvin Mongold: Varsity Girls’ Basketball Assistant Coach at East Hardy High School.

In other business the Board reviewed the Grievance Summary for 2001-2002, renewed contracts with Eastern WV Community & Technical College, and approved student transfers.
Mission Statement Accomplishments:
§ Mr. Funkhouser: Commended the Energy Express programs and urged everyone to attend the open houses.
§
Mr. Williams: Commended the
participants at the Agricultural Science Fair – four winners of 1st
place in the state. Commended the
work of all of Hardy County Schools in having the highest scores in the state in
9th Grade Reading and 11th Grade Math.
§ Mr. Pack: Noted the attractive appearance of school grounds and commended maintenance and custodial crews.
§ Mr. Fertig: Commended the work of the Bond Advisory Committee and the efforts of Joe Evans and Greg Williamson for their assistance.
§
Mr. Park: Reported on the
State FFA Convention and presented Mr. Williams a shirt.
MMS was the State Quiz Bowl winners.
§
Mrs. Hammer: Commended the
Service Personnel Staff Development Committees for the excellent training
programs. Commended Energy Express
for their outstanding job.
§ Mr. Whetzel: Urged board members to visit the schools, especially EHHS and MES to see the effects of summer painting. Reported to the Board that copies of the agendas and summaries of Board meetings will be posted on the county website effective July 1st.
