HARDY
COUNTY SCHOOLS
Regular School Board Meeting
July 29, 2002 – 7:00 p.m.
The Board reviewed the Bond Election Call. After a phone conference with Mr. Collins, Bond Attorney, the Board approved the following:
§ Place the Bond on the November ballot.
§ Bond Amount - $11,900,000.
§ Request from School Building Authority - $5,890,000.
§ Sell of building bonds after February 1, 2004.
§ New Bond tax rates will not go into effect until current bond expires.
The financial closeout for 2001-2002 shows a surplus of $78,503. Besides the projects already approved $10,000 was placed in the “Reserve Contingency Fund”.
The Board discussed a community meeting with business partners and meeting with the Hardy County Commissioners with regard to cooperative sharing of information regarding the plans and growth of Hardy County.
Mr. Whetzel reported on standardized test scores and that Hardy County students had the highest test scores in the state in 9th Grade Math and 11th Grade Reading.
An update was provided on the numerous summer work projects that are underway.
Personnel Action:
Employed the following:
Ø Michelle Pillar: Teacher for Multi-Subjects Grade 5/6 at EHEMS.
Ø Angela Fink: Bus Operator for South Fork route.
Ø Debbie Miller: Middle School Cheerleader Coach at EHEMS.
Ø Jodie Keplinger: Varsity Cheerleader Coach at MHS.
Ø Tracy Miller: Volunteer Football Coach at EHHS/EHEMS.
Accepted the following resignation:
Ø Leonard Haney: Director of Technology/Instruction.
Approved the following postings:
Ø Instructional/Technology/Facilities Coordinator – Central Office.
Ø Building Construction Teacher, ½ time – EHHS (temporary position).
Ø Substitute Custodian IV – MES (temporary position).
Ø Varsity Boys’ Basketball Coach – EHHS.
Ø Varsity Cross Country Coach – EHHS.
Ø Varsity Girls’ Track Coach – EHHS.
Ø Middle School Football Coach – EHEMS.
Mission Statement Accomplishments:
§
Mr. Williams: Noted the
success in achieving a balanced budget and that Hardy County Schools is on a
positive financial track.
§
Mr. Park: Echoed the
commendations with regard to the test scores, Bond effort, appearance of
facilities, and the bands.
