The
following is provided as an unofficial summary of the above dated meeting of the
Hardy County Board of Education. Official
copies of the minutes may be obtained, once they are approved by the Hardy
County Board of Education, by contacting Jeanette Keller, Executive Secretary to

SUMMARY
The meeting began,
as required by law, with the reconvened meeting to address the Levy Rates and
School Budget for 2003-2004. After
review they were approved. The
budget will be balanced for the upcoming year, and the school system will again
end the year in the black.
In other action:
- The
Board received an update on the impact of NCLB at EHEM and the planned
parent meeting of April 17th.
- The
Board received information on the Secondary Alternative Scheduling meeting
for April 29th and the parent meeting at 6:00 p.m.
- Board
members approved the use of the State Treasurer’s Office for auditing for
2002-2003.
- Board
Policies: Emergency Closing – ABC; and Work Year and Unpaid Days – GBW
were approved for first reading
- Bids
were approved for the pilot lawn-mowing/weed eating for MES and MHS.
In personnel
action the Board:
- Approved
the Leave of Absence request from Suzanne Goodall for the 2003-2004 school
term.
- Approved
the posting of Elementary Teacher, Grade 2, at MES for 2003-2004.
- Approved
the postings for Cook III at MES and EHEMS for 32 days for the summer Energy
Express program.
The following
Mission Statement / Positives were presented:
- Mr.
Pack: Commended Bill Hunt for
his work with the track teams and the efforts that have gone into the field
at MMS.
- Mr.
Fertig: Commended the county
and state Science Fair winners, and noted that we have a national
participant.
- Mr.
Park: Recognized the excellent
rating received by the MHS band and commended Mr. Godfrey for his work.
- Mr.
Funkhouser: Commended the track
team at EHHS for their success. Extended
Ms. Diane Hypes for her excellent work at the Moorefield Examiner.
- Mr.
Williams: Reported on the
excellent softball tournament and the work that was involved.
Also commended the work of Mr. Haslacker and the FFA for their
fundraiser.
- Mrs.
Hammer: Saluted Ms. Hypes for
her efforts to report on education news, including attending a state
conference on NCLB.
- Mr.
Whetzel: Reported to the Board
on the quality and quanity of personnel applying to Hardy County Schools.
It is always a positive to see that Hardy County is a place people
want to “come to”.
The next regular
meeting of the Hardy County Board of Education will be April 28th,
2003 at the Hardy County Board of Education Office at 7:00 p.m.
