In other action:
A brief update on
the recent meeting at EHEM regarding the impact of NCLB was provided.
The Board was informed of the next step, which will be sending out
letters to parents regarding transportation requirements.
The Board went on
record to officially run the Building Bond on October 4th, 2003.
A representative group of parents will be invited to the next meeting.
The Board reviewed
different Calendar options being discussed.
A final recommendation should be brought to the meeting on the 5th.
For 2003 Hardy
County had 66 applicants for the Promise Scholarship. This is a large increase
over last year.
The Board reviewed
the Step 7 project for next year.
Approval was given
to sell three excess buses in a surplus sale.
The following
Mission Statement / Positives were presented:
- Mr.
Williams: Reported that his
daughter had hit her first homerun in softball for MHS.
A great accomplishment. Expressed
delight that there were 66 applications for the Promise Scholarship.
Again expressed his support for the Building Bond to address the
needs of students.
- Mr.
Fertig: Extended thanks to
Diane Hypes for her work on the Moorefield Examiner and excellent articles
related to Education.
- Mr.
Park: Congratulated both high
schools for their successful proms. Extended
thanks for the efforts to insure that they were safe events.
Extended thanks to Mrs. Hammer for her efforts to fill positions and
the quality of applicants.
- Mr.
Funkhouser: Also commended the
work that has gone into securing Promise Scholarships--this is an excellent
number for a small county.
- Mr.
Pack: Extended appreciation to all employees for the hard work they are
performing and especially the bus drivers for their efforts to transport
students safely.
- Mrs.
Hammer: Reported that the
quality of applicants for Principals was excellent. There are a large number of people who want to come to
Hardy County to work.
- Mr.
Whetzel: Commended Veeta
Burgess, Finance Officer, for her efforts to secure FEMA money due to the
cost of the major snowstorm. Her
efforts will result in about a $6,000 reimbursement.
The next regular
meeting of the Hardy County Board of Education will be May 5th, 2003
at the Hardy County Board of Education Offices.
