Regular School Board Meeting
August 4, 2003 7:00 p.m.
The
following is provided as an unofficial summary of the above dated meeting of the
Hardy County Board of Education. Official

The meeting began with an introduction of the following new principals who have been employed by Hardy County Schools:
The Board welcomed these individuals and commented on the excellent qualities and skills they will add to the school system.
Mrs. Becky Brill, Assistant Principal at EHEM, presented an update on the work being done at EHEM in regard to NCLB requirements, gave an overview of the goals, staffing assignment, academic academy for staff, professional development plans and support team, at the local, regional and state levels. Mrs. Brill and board members commented on the excellent response that was being received by staff and the excitement and enthusiasm for the new programs.
The Board received the preliminary budget closeout for 2002-2003. The final result shows a surplus of $18,594, which they approved to be placed in the reserve account. The final budget figures will be compiled by the next board meeting. These figures will include receivables, which are counted as surplus by the State. These are funds that will be received but are obligated to expenditures already identified by the State.
The Board reviewed the model policy on Board Effectiveness as required by the State. Discussion was held on what should be included, and the Superintendent was directed to draft a policy for Board review.
The Board adopted the State approved Code of Conduct Policy for Students. This policy will be distributed for additional comment during 2003-2004 and further revision.
The Board received a report from the Superintendent on local Grievance Activity during 2002-2003. There was one Level IV Grievance that was decided in favor of the Board.
The Board approved continuation of the field trip reimbursement rate at the previous years level.
Information was provided on the restoration of funding for Alternative Education and the current status of the continuation of the program at South Branch Career and Technical Center.
An out-of-county transfer was approved for a student to attend Grant County Schools.
