Regular Board Meeting

February 10, 2003 – 7:00 p.m.

The following is provided as an unofficial summary of the above dated meeting of the Hardy County Board of Education. SUMMARY

The meeting began with a presentation by the West Virginia Extension Service. This was their annual report to the Board. Mr. George Tusing presented the information. Included was the annual request for funding. The Board expressed appreciation for their work with students and cooperation with Hardy County Schools.

Several trips were approved for student competitions / performances.

The Parent Involvement Policy BBIA was revised and will be sent out for comment.

The Board was presented with the Spring Calendar for meetings. The primary focus will be on personnel and budgets.

Mrs. Hammer gave a report on the status of the Preschool Four-Year-Old Program. The first step is the formation of teams at each elementary school to conduct needs assessment.

In personnel action the Board –

Employed:

1. Heather Glascock: Substitute Teacher

2. Sabrina Starnes: Substitute Teacher

3. Terri Thompson: Substitute Teacher

4. John William Fisher: Substitute Teacher

5. Jerry Dean: Substitute Teacher

6. Charles Hukill: Temporary Part-time ESL Instructor for present school year only, effective February 12

7. Amanda Simmons: Girls’ Varsity Track Coach at EHHS

8. Daniel Simmons: Volunteer Girls Track Coach at EHHS

9. J. Brad Simmons: Volunteer Girls Track Coach at EHHS

Denied a leave of absence request from coaching because there is no provision in our county policy to cover such request.

Accepted the following resignations:

1. Steve Williams: Assistant Football Coach at EHHS

2. Nick Watts: Assistant Varsity Baseball Coach at MHS

3. Gary and Janet Butts: Substitute Teachers

Approved the following posting:

1. Assistant Varsity Baseball Coach at MHS

The following Mission Statement / Positives were presented:

Mr. Williams: Thanked the Extension Service for their work.

Mr. Funkhouser: Extended appreciation to Mrs. Hammer and the community committee for their work with four-year-olds.

Mr. Park: Commended the Transportation Department for their work this year in transporting students during the bad weather conditions.

Mr. Fertig: Commended the efforts of Transportation and the use of 2-hour delays.

Mr. Pack: Commended the work of the various staff in supporting activities for students to participate in competitions and events.

Mrs. Hammer: Commended the MHS Science Quiz Bowl for their performance in Morgantown, and the work of the Extension Service in providing Energy Express.

Mr. Whetzel: Gave the Board members a list of the winners at the county Math Field Day and commended Mrs. Miller for her work.

The next regular meeting of the Hardy County Board of Education will be on February 24^th, 7:00 p. m. at the Hardy County Board of Education Office.
