Regular Board Meeting

February 24, 2003 – 7:00 p.m.

The following is provided as an unofficial summary of the above dated meeting of the Hardy County Board of Education. SUMMARY

A report on the impact of the recent snow / flood problems was presented by the Superintendent. Included was information on the steps that were taken, impact and damage to facilities, cost, and affect on school calendar. Appreciation was extended to everyone for their assistance and dedication to getting facilities reopened.

The Board approved Energy Express summer school for EHEM and MES for summer 2003. Appreciation was extended to West Virginia Extension for their continued support.

The Textbook Adoption Committee was approved for 2003.

Enrollment information for Kindergarten was provided. Numbers currently show that next years class will be about the same as this year. However, it is expected that this number will increase. At this time projected enrollment increases will be, at a minimum, 30 students. Options for Kindergarten and primary grade organizations were discussed.

Cindy Taylor – Transferred to Cook I, ½ time, MMS.
Brian Powell – Assistant Varsity Baseball Coach, MHS.
Cindy Taylor – Substitute Custodian and Substitute Cook.
Mary Collins – Substitute Custodian.

Approved the following posting:

Custodian I, ½ time at EHEMS.

The following Mission Statement / Positives were presented:

All members extended appreciation to the employees and communities for their assistance during the recent weather situations. The sense of teamwork and cooperation was outstanding.

In Addition:

Mr. Park: Noted that it was National FFA week and commended Andy Yost, EHHS, for the radio announcements.

Mr. Fertig: Commended the efforts to have Mr. Von Behren as a presenter to local students regarding the impact of using tobacco.

Mrs. Hammer: Thanked Mr. Taketa for his work as substitute for Mr. Ruggles who was on military duty. He did an outstanding job.

Mr. Whetzel: Commended the student who was selected for the Governors School for the Arts, and commended Mrs. Hammer for her going beyond the call of duty in assisting an employee who has been hospitalized.

The next meeting of the Hardy County Board of Education will be a regular meeting on March 3^rd, 2003, 7:00 p.m. at East Hardy Early/ Middle School.
