COUNTY SCHOOLS
Regular
School Board Meeting
July
7, 2003 7:00 p.m.
The
following is provided as an unofficial summary of the above dated meeting of the
Hardy County Board of Education. Official
copies of the minutes may be obtained, once they are approved by the Hardy
County Board of Education, by contacting Jeanette Keller, Executive Secretary to
the Superintendent, 510 Ashby Street, Moorefield WV 26836, (304) 538 2348.
SUMMARY
In major action
the Board reviewed the Bond Election Call and approved for it submission to the
voters on October 4, 2004. The
following provisions were included:
§
Bond Amount - $11,970,000
§
Request from School Building Authority - $5,890,000
§
Sell of Bond will be no earlier than February 2004.
§
New Bond tax rates will not go into effect until current bond expires.
In
other action:
- The
Board rescinded the expenditures identified at the last meeting related to
Budget Digest Funds. Upon
information received from Delegate Michael the funds were allocated to the
individual schools. A review of
the projects that were recommended by the principals, and identified
initially by the Board, was conducted with the principals.
Schools will be requested to provide a financial statement as to the
expenditure of funds.
- The
Board approved a resolution to be sent to Senators Byrd and Rockefeller
urging the revisions of Child Nutrition guidelines to include revising the
funding to include reduced price lunch students to free status.
- Mr.
Park gave an update on the work being conducted through the Hardy County
Parks and Recreation Committee.
- The
waiver request of Moorefield High School to continue on a 9-week report card
cycle was approved.
Personnel Action:
Employed the
following:
- Kelly
Hood Special Education Teacher, LD/BD/Gifted at East Hardy Early/Middle
School.
- Tammy
Gilbert Math Teacher, ½ time at Moorefield High School.
- Sandra
Hagert Multi-Subjects CSR Teacher at Moorefield Elementary School.
- Amanda
Simmons Multi-Subjects CSR Teacher at East Hardy Early/Middle School.
- Jennifer
Ours Cook II, ½ time at Moorefield High School.
- Donald
Evans Varsity Football Coach at East Hardy High School (pending
completion of training).
Approved the
following postings:
- Principal
at East Hardy Early/Middle School, 225-day employment (repost).
- Secondary
Teacher, ½ time for General Science Grades 9-12 at Moorefield High School
(repost).
- Middle
School English/Language Arts Teacher, Grades 5-8 at Moorefield Middle
School.
- Middle
School Boys Basketball Coach at Moorefield Middle School.
- Varsity
Cheerleading Coach at East Hardy High School.
- Assistant
Varsity Volleyball Coach at East Hardy High School.
- Assistant
Varsity Football Coach at East Hardy High School.
- Assistant
Varsity Girls Basketball Coach at East Hardy High School.
- Varsity
Softball Coach at East Hardy High School.
- Athletic
Trainer at East Hardy High School.
- Middle
School Football Coach at East Hardy Early/Middle School.
- Middle
School Cheerleading Coach at East Hardy Early/Middle School.
Mission Statement
Accomplishments:
- Mr.
Pack: Noted that Mr. Fertig had
over 5 hours of State School Board Training. He was commended for this effort. All Board members met or exceeded the required hours.
- Mr.
Fertig: Commended the MHS band for their performance in the 4th
of July Parade. Also commended
the work of the Fresh Air Fund for sponsoring inter-city children coming to
Hardy County. It is a great
experience for everyone.
- Mr.
Park: Also commended the MHS Band and thanked Mr. Whetzel and Mrs. Hammer
for their work in filling openings in the schools system.
Were well ahead of previous years.
- Mr.
Funkhouser: Commended everyone for their work in having all RIFed personnel
placed in new positions.
- Mr.
Williams: Commended the work of
the maintenance and contracted employees for their efforts in mowing and
keeping grounds attractive over the summer. The best they have looked in a long time.
- Mrs.
Hammer: Commended secretaries
and custodians for their hard work over the summer. Their efforts are often not noticed but are critical to
the operation of the school system.
- Mr.
Whetzel: Reported on his
excellent visit to Energy Express. Also
noted that this was the first meeting of the new school year and already
tremendous work has gone into curriculum, instruction, policies, and the
budget.
The next regular
meeting of the Hardy County Board of Education is scheduled for July 21, 7:00 p.
m. at the Hardy County Board of Education Office.
