SUMMARY

 

A major portion of the meeting was devoted to a number of presentations:

 

Mr. Nathan Edgerton, EHHS, was recognized for his achievement as a National Merit Finalist.

 

Mr. Ken Pack, on behalf of the Education Alliance, recognized and provided certificates of award and tokens of appreciation for their achievement as winner of Mini-Grant Awards.

 

Mrs. Milagro Regal presented the EHEM Destination Imagination Team participants.  A video of their performance was shown.  The board commended the students and wished them well in the National Competition.

 

Mr. Neil Gillies presented the “Making Science Real” grant jointly submitted and approved by Cacapon Institute and Hardy County Schools.  The Board commended Mr. Gillies for his efforts.

 

Sheriff David Mathias, Laura Snyder, and Kathy Whetzel presented information on a grant that would provide a Deputy Sheriff as a resource office for the school system.  The grant would be for three years with the fourth year paid for through combined efforts of the Sheriff’s Department and Hardy County Schools.  The Board approved proceeding with this grant.

 

In other actions:

 

The Board reviewed the consultation report for the State Health Department that showed there was no danger from the water supply at East Hardy evident in the past, present, or immediate future.  This information has been sent to the County Commission for their action as to the appropriate follow-up.

 

Personal Leave Bank Policy GBR was read for the second time and approved without additional changes.

 

Textbook adoption request for 2003-2004 was approved.

 

Board members reported on the recent training session and reported on the major content of the meeting.

 

In personnel action the Board:

 

Employed for 2003-2004:

ü      David Jones – East Hardy High School Principal.

ü      Patrick McGregor – Moorefield Elementary and Moorefield Middle Schools Assistant Principal.

ü      Rebecca Brill – East Hardy Early/Middle School Assistant Principal.

ü      Sharon Humphries – Moorefield Elementary Multi-Subjects Elementary Teacher, Grade 1.

ü      Karen Halterman – East Hardy Early/Middle School Title I Reading/Math Teacher.

ü      Jennifer Kessel – East Hardy Schools Art Teacher.

ü      Robin Williams – Removed from RIF list and placed as Preschool Teacher at Moorefield Elementary School.

ü      Jacklyn See – Substitute Teacher.

ü      Wanda Bensenhaver – Supervisory Aide II at Moorefield Elementary School (transfer).

 

Accepted the following resignations:

ü      David Fincham – Director of Instruction/Technology/Facilities.

ü      John Sager – Bus Operator

 

Approved the following postings:

ü      Assistant Principal – Moorefield High School (re-post).

ü      English/Language Arts and History Teacher at Moorefield High School.

ü      Multi-Subjects/Elementary Teacher at East Hardy Early/Middle School.

ü      Multi-Subjects/English/Language Arts Teacher at East Hardy Early/Middle School.

ü      Special Education Teacher, MI/LD/BD with Autism at Moorefield Middle School.

ü      Supervisory Aide II, Kindergarten at Moorefield Elementary School.

ü      Supervisory Aide II, Preschool at Moorefield Elementary School

ü      Cook III for Summer Energy Express Program for 32 days at Moorefield Elementary School (re-post).

ü      Cook III for Summer Energy Express Program for 32 days at East Hardy Early/Middle School (re-post).

 

The following Mission Statement / Positives were presented:

 

Mr. Pack:  Commended the Education Alliance recipients who did a great job, over and above expectations.

 

Mr. Fertig:  Congratulated the Destination Imagination team and hoped they will have a great time.  Commented on the good meeting with the Building Bond Support Committee.

 

Mr. Park:  Noted the Excellent MMS and EHHS FFA banquets.  Excellent awards and banquets.  Also noted the EHHS benefit banquet for Stephen Orndorff was excellent.

 

Mr. Funkhouser:  Extended congratulations to Destination Imagination and Nathan Edgerton.

 

Mr. Williams:  Thanked Mr. Gillies for his efforts.  Extended appreciation to the Sheriff’s Department.  Welcomed aboard Mrs. Brill.

 

Rebecca Brill:  Noted the hard work on Accelerated Reader by students and efforts to include all the books in the library on the system.

 

Mr. Rodney Hardman:  Commented on how great the kids were Saturday night at the dinner.

 

Mr. Moore:  Thanked everyone for their support of Destination Imagination.  Commended the PTO for working together to recognize the teachers.

 

Mrs. Hammer:  Welcomed aboard the new administrators and staff.  Commended Mr. Fincham and noted he will be missed.

 

Mr. Whetzel:  Asked everyone to look back on the evenings presentations--An excellent example of the work and success of our students, teachers, organizations, and community.

 

The next meeting of the Hardy County Board of Education will be June 9, 2003, 7:00 p.m. at the Hardy County Board of Education Office.
