Regular School Board Meeting

November 17, 2003 – 7:00 p.m.

SUMMARY

 

The evening began with Board members attending the annual second grade presentation of their Thanksgiving program.  The Board was most impressed with the work of the staff and students.

 

Beginning the meeting was a presentation by Jack McClanahan, Assistant State Superintendent, and Wayne Clutter, Director of Transportation.  They presented awards to MES and MMS for their success in meeting, and exceeding, certain standards identified in NCLB as identified in the WV Achieves initiative.  Principals, Faculty Senate Chairs, and parent representatives were on hand to receive the awards.

 

The Board recognized Adam Judy for his success in winning the Division I Agri-Science Fair National Micro Biology Award.  He was presented a plaque for his accomplishment.  The Board also noted the contributions of Arlyn Haslacker, MHS Vocational Teacher.

 

The Board recognized Mr. Red Funkhouser for his 33 years of service as a Board member in Hardy County.  He was commended for his dedication to the school system over these years.

 

The Board reviewed the requirements of joining the Public Employees Benefit Plan for Board members.  After discussion, the Board agreed to permit members to enroll, if they desired, into this program.

 

A brief update on the upcoming meeting with the SBA and presentation of the Needs Project was provided.

 

The Board reviewed the current CEFP and MIP projects and reaffirmed that these are to remain as written.  This information will be forwarded to the SBA as required.

 

The initial draft of the County Unified Improvement Plan was presented to the Board for review.  The complete plan will be presented for approval at the next meeting.
