The
following is provided as an unofficial summary of the above dated meeting of the
Hardy County Board of Education. Official
copies of the minutes may be obtained, once they are approved by the Hardy

SUMMARY
The Board received
a presentation from Moorefield High School staff regarding the Testing
Strategies Classes to promote student achievement.
Mrs. Tammy Gilbert presented a PowerPoint presentation along with Connie
Thomas, Henry Hodges, Charlotte Hill and Nancy Hill.
The Board extended appreciation to Mr. Hines and his staff for this
initiative and their efforts to address student achievement.
The Board reviewed
the requirements of joining the Public Employees Benefit Plan for Board Members.
After discussion, the Board agreed to carry the item over until the next
Board meeting.
A brief update on
the CEFT was provided. Discussion
was held on the presentation of November 18th to the SBA regarding
the current Needs Project.
The Board approved
an editorial change to Policy IDC – Grade Scale to bring it into compliance
with State policy.
Content Standards
for elective courses in Communications and Web Based Design for secondary
students was approved.

Mission Statement
Accomplishments:
- Mr.
Pack: Commended Mr. Sisler,
MMS, for continuation of his WV Heritage Project. The apple butter was delicious.
- Mr.
Fertig: Thanked Delegate Harold Michael for his ongoing support for Hardy
County Schools and especially the support for the new Intermediate School.
- Mr.
Park: Reported that Adam Judy,
MHS, won nationwide first place in the National FFA Science Fair
competition. Congratulations.
- Mr.
Funkhouser: Commended Mr. Hines
and his staff and noted the excellent care that is taken at MHS.
Congratulated MHS Football for their victory and EHHS Volleyball for
achieving the PVC Championship.
- Mr.
Williams: Commended MMS
Football for PVC champs and undefeated season.
Commended MHS for their effort to positively address the requirements
of NCLB.
- Mrs.
Hammer: Noted that Tammy
Gilbert volunteers on a regular basis to tutor math students after school.
Also reported that 3 teachers are participating in the Standards
Setting meeting for the new Westest program.
- Mr.
Whetzel: Commended Mr.
Funkhouser on his 33 years of service as a Board Member for Hardy County
Schools. His dedication and
commitment is to be commended.
The next regular
meeting of the Hardy County Board of Education will be held on November 17,
2003, 7:00 p.m. at Moorefield Elementary School.
