Hardy County Schools
Regular School Board Meeting
October 20, 2003
The following is provided as an unofficial summary of the above dated meeting of the Hardy County Board of Education. Official copies of the minutes may be obtained, once they are approved by the Hardy County Board of Education, by contacting Jeannette Keller, Executive Secretary to the Superintendent, 510 Ashby Street, Moorefield, WV 26836, (304) 538-2348.
The
Board began several presentations from students at EHEMS under the direction of
the Elective Course teachers at the school: Dennis Brill, Arthur Halterman,
Joyce Strawderman, Bob Thompson, Cynthia Walters, and Ann Funkhouser. The
students presented samples of the activities they had learned in their
classrooms. The Board was most impressed with the variety of skills the students
had experienced.
The
Board approved transportation requests for the FFA students from Moorefield
High, East Hardy High, and Moorefield Middle Schools to attend the national FFA
convention in Louisville, Kentucky. They also approved two out-of-country trip
requests from the Spanish classes with certain stipulations.
The
Board then reviewed the Comprehensive Educational Facilities Plan and held a
lengthy discussion on the options for improving the schools in light of the
failure of the School Bond Levy. No
action was taken on the CEFP. The
Superintendent was directed to gather information on facilities options and bond
options for future meetings.
The
Superintendent reviewed a preliminary draft of the recently completed Financial
Audit of the school system. The Board commended the Financial staff for their
work in this area.
The
Superintendent also reviewed the new WV State Board Policy on Superintendent’s
Evaluations. Hardy County currently
has a policy in place and has been evaluating the Superintendent as required by
this policy. Some changes may be
required in timelines.
Elective
Course Content Standards for East Hardy Early/Middle School were presented by
Mrs. Sharon Hammer and approved.
Information
on Second Month Enrollment and Personnel status was presented by Mrs. Hammer.
The unofficial second month enrollment figures are 2342 students demonstrating
an increase of 29 students from last year. In addition, preliminary figures
indicate that Hardy County is over 1.2 Professional Staff and 3 Service
Personnel Staff for the current school year.
The
Board held discussion on the NCLB bus run from Moorefield to East Hardy and took
no action to change the run.
A
request for an Out-of-County transfer was approved.
