following is provided as an unofficial summary of the above dated meeting of the
Hardy County Board of Education. Official

SUMMARY
In major action:
The Board reviewed
approved Policy JBD Home Schools / Private School as presented.
The Board reviewed
and approved the school calendar changes made necessary due to the loss of
instructional days. They are as follows:

- Monday,
April 5 Instructional Day
- Tuesday,
April 6 Instructional Day
- Wednesday,
April 7 Instructional Day
- Thursday,
April 8 Instructional Day
- Friday,
June 4 Instructional Day
- Monday,

- Tuesday,
June 8 CE
- Wednesday,
June 9 Prep Day
The LSIC agendas
for the upcoming meetings were reviewed and approved.
They will be forwarded to the organizations.
The Board was
informed that Hardy Telecommunications secured the E-Rate bids for Hardy County
for the next fiscal year.
Discussion was
held on the annual Board Retreat and the value of reviewing the extensive
information especially related to facilities and student achievement data.
The Education
Alliance winners were announced, Melissa Sine and Elizabeth Bosley.
They will be invited to the April 5th meeting to be
recognized.

Personnel Action:
Employed the
following for 2004-2005:
- Collin
Rhodes Social Studies Teacher at MHS.
- Stacey
Burgoyne Transfer from Preschool to Teacher for Elementary/Early Ed at
EHEMS.
Accepted the
following resignations:
- Rick
Perkins, effective August 1, 2004 due to retirement MHS Teacher.
- Paul
Wilkins, effective June 30, 2004 due to retirement EHHS Custodian.
- Danette
High Substitute Cook.
Mission Statement
Accomplishments:
- Mr.
Funkhouser: Commended Marc Bulger, former WVU quarterback for his record
setting performance in the Super Bowl.
- Mr.
Williams: Commented on the work involved in pulling together the information
for the retreat and appreciated the work.
This information helps the Board members do their job.
- Mr.
Park: Commended everyone, including parents, for their effort to get to
school during the bad weather.
- Mr.
Fertig: Congratulated the Administrative staff for the educational
information they provided for the retreat. It was an education for Board members.
- Mr.
Pack: Noted that years ago
there were efforts to review and improve lunch programs.
Congratulated Mrs. Hawse for her efforts in these areas and
addressing improvements at EHEM.
- Mrs.
Hammer: Reported on her Breakfast with Students at EHHS.
She has been doing this throughout the school year.
- Mr.
Whetzel: Commended Garry Moore and Mickey Taylor for their efforts last
Friday and Saturday in working on furnace issues at EHHS.
Noted that this is the earliest and most extensive effort ever to
address personnel needs for the upcoming year.
This should result in securing the best employees possible.
The next regular
meeting will be held February 23rd, 7:00 p.m. at the Hardy County
Board of Education Office.
