School Board Meeting
January
20, 2004 – 7:00 p.m.
The
following is provided as an unofficial summary of the above dated meeting of the
Hardy County Board of Education. Official
copies of the minutes may be obtained, once they are approved by the Hardy

SUMMARY
The meeting began
with several employee recognitions:
- Arther
Halterman for being selected as WV Conservation Teacher of the Year.
- Janet
Sisler for achieving National Board Teacher Certification.
Appreciation was
extended to both individuals for their outstanding accomplishments.
The Board received
information on the increased enrollment funds for 2003-04.
The amount of $79,324 was received from the State allocation. The Superintendent indicated that this was a help; however,
due to the cost for the additional 42 students in teachers, supplies, textbooks
etc. it is still short of the actual cost.
The Board spent
time reviewing the proposed changes to State Policy 2510 that is out for public
comment.
The Board reviewed
the improvement grants awarded to MMS and EHEM.
These grants will provide funding for professional development,
materials, after-school tutoring and summer school.

Mission Statement
Accomplishments
- Mr.
Funkhouser: Congratulated the individuals at MMS and EHEM, under the
direction of Barbara Whitecotton and Peggy Hawse, for their efforts in
securing these grants for Hardy County students.
- Mr.
Pack: Commended Arther Halterman for his efforts.
He demonstrates a real commitment to students.
- Mr.
Park: Commended the Transportation Department and all bus drivers for their
efforts in safely transporting students. They do an excellent job.
- Mr.
Fertig: Commented on the work of the Athletic Directors.
Their work in re-scheduling games, attending contests, and promoting
of sportsmanship is greatly appreciated.
- Mr.
Williams: Commented on the availability of increased enrollment funds and
thanked each one for their efforts to meet the needs of our increased
student population and also meeting financial requirements.
- Mrs.
Hammer: Congratulated Janet Sisler for her accomplishments and also her
selection to the WV Reading Cadre.
- Mr.
Whetzel: Reported that attendance for first semester was the best it has
been in seven years. Thanked
the individuals at the schools and the efforts of Mr. Wilbur.
Also thanked Mr. Funkhouser and Mr. Park for their filing for the
Board of Education election. Their
dedication to the students of Hardy County is to be commended.
The next regular
meeting of the Hardy County Board of Education will be held February 9, 2004,
7:00 p.m. at Moorefield Elementary School.
