Regular School Board Meeting

The following is provided as an unofficial summary of the above dated meeting of the Hardy County Board of Education. SUMMARY

The Board attended the annual second grade Thanksgiving performance. Several classes presented songs, skits, and poems related to the Holiday. It was an excellent presentation and enjoyed by the Board.

Representatives of the MMS LSIC approached the Board with regard to several issues related to the MMS facility and the status of a new intermediate school and/or expansion of that facility. Discussion was held with regard to the CEFP and the proposed Needs Project, MIP, available grant funds, and timelines.

Follow-up discussion was held on the current CEFP. The Board discussed conducting a review of the CEFP and the conducting of a Bond Levy. Survey information is to be available at the December meeting. The Board reapproved the current CEFP without amendment and identified the MES Multi-Purpose Room as its continuing top priority for an MIP project.

In other actions:

The Board reviewed bids for the Building Trades House at EHHS. The bid submitted by Virginia Hose was accepted.

The Board received an update on the recent bus fire. We are still waiting for reports from the fire marshals and insurance adjusters.

An update on the enrollment and program offerings at South Branch Career and Technical Center was provided. It was noted that enrollment has increased over the past several years.

An update on the Strategic Planning “Dream Team” committee was presented.

Personnel Action:

Employed Margaret Rowe as part-time ESL Instructor at East Hardy Schools effective November 16, 2004.
Accepted the resignation of Capri Heishman as Substitute Cook.

Mission Statement Accomplishments

Mr. Funkhouser noted how much he enjoyed the Thanksgiving presentation – wonderful job.

Mr. Pack thanked the teachers for their work with the students. Their extra effort is appreciated.
Mr. Fertig noted that it was American Education Week and that tonight was a great example of how students, parents, and staff work together.
Mr. Park reported on the recent American Legion celebration of Veterans Day and the support they give to Boys and Girls State. Mr. Park thanked Mr. Fertig for his support of the Legion as the trumpet player for so many events.
Mr. Williams commended Bev Coppe for the excellent job at MES. There is always exciting activities going on. Commented on the remarks of a parent chaperone to the National FFA Convention and what a wonderful experience it is for our students.
Mrs. Hammer saluted all faculty and staff for their hard work and urged everyone to thank them during American Education Week.
Mr. Whetzel shared with the Board an article from the magazine published by Pilgrim’s Pride which recognized the local employees who volunteer as student tutors at EHEM.

The next meeting of the Hardy County Board of Education is scheduled for December 6, 7:00 p.m. at East Hardy Early/Middle School.
