Regular School Board Meeting

The
following is provided as an unofficial summary of the above dated meeting of the
Hardy County Board of Education. Official

Presentations: The LSICs of Moorefield Elementary School and Moorefield High School each presented their annual LSIC updates. Information was provided on the schools’ goals related to student achievement, specific activities to accomplish these, specific recommendations and needs, and positives related to the school. The overall presentations were excellent, and the Board was most appreciative of the hard work being conducted at each school on behalf of students.
Dr. John Hough, Executive Director of RESA VIII, met with the Board to review the work of RESA. Information was provided on the number of services provided, work on school improvement, and the use of Polycom communications throughout the region. Dr. Hough also discussed with the Board the current status of legislation.

Mission Statement Accomplishments
· Each member commended the LSICs of the schools for their excellent presentations and involvement in the schools.
· Mr. Funkhouser commended the LSIC individuals for their commitment to school improvement.
· Mr. Park commended the county winners in the Ham, Bacon, and Egg Show. It raised over $40,000 for the students. He thanked Mr. Williams for his help and all of the business and community members for their support.
· Mr. Pack commended Mr. Williams and Mr. Park for their efforts in the Ham, Bacon and Egg Show. He also thanked Mr. Haslacker, Mr. Harper, and Mr. Hardman for their work.
· Mr. Williams commended Chris DeVault for her work on the Camp Healthy Choices; she did an excellent job.
· Mrs. Hammer noted that four of the six Grand and Reserve Champions were from Hardy County. She commended Jacob Smith, EHHS, and Megan Mathias, Moorefield, for being State winners in the Math Field Day competition. She also recognized Claire Hawse for her winning the title of Miss Moorefield.
· Mr. Whetzel reported that the results of the ACT Explore test for 8th grade had Hardy County at the state average and the ACT Plan test for 10th Grade had Hardy County as the 5th highest in the State. Congratulations on the excellent work.
The next meeting of the Hardy County Board of Education is scheduled for March 21st, 2005 at the Hardy County Board of Education Office.
