following is provided as an unofficial summary of the above dated meeting of the
Hardy County Board of Education. Official

SUMMARY
Levy Rates and
Financial Condition:
The Board approved the established levy rates as prepared by the
assessor. A review of the current
financial condition of the county was given.
Highlights include: Expected
revenues for the remainder of the year will cover all expenses, and a small
surplus is expected of approximately $12,000.
Enrollment projections show enrollment to remain steady with little or no
growth projected at this time.
In other actions:
Ø
The Board received the report from the Fire Marshall’s Inspection that
showed only two findings, MMS and EHEM, regarding the requirement to now conduct
quarterly inspections. A firm has
been contracted to perform these services.
Ø
The Board approved continuation of the current contract for banking
services for one year before re-bidding.
Ø
Job Descriptions for School Business Official/Treasurer and Accountant
III were approved.
Ø
The Board approved a resolution in support of a legislative proposal to
provide current year funding for growth counties.
Public Comment:
- Larry
Salyers approached the board with concerns regarding the Board following
“Open Meetings” proceedings and action taken in the offering of a new
contract to the Superintendent, facilities at MHS and Internet usage at MMS.
- Catherine
Jackson, Lisa Moyers, Jackie Zirk, and Connie Fitzwater approached the Board
regarding the offering of Special Education services at MMS.
The Board agreed to put this on the agenda for a future meeting.

Mission Statement
Accomplishments:
- Mr.
Funkhouser commended WVU and the recognition it is bringing to the State.
- Mr.
Pack extended appreciation to the Board visitors, and they will help us have
and better school system to help children succeed.
- Mr.
Fertig recognized that it is still Arts in the Schools month and commented
on the excellent art work displayed throughout the Board Office.
- Mr.
Park noted the continuing ability of Hardy County Schools to attract and
hire qualified applicants for positions.
- Mr.
Williams reported that he had the opportunity to spend time with several
young farmers and noted their positive attitude toward Hardy County and the
schools. He also mentioned that
he appreciated the concerns of parents about their children.
- Mrs.
Hammer reported that the State Dream Quest winners included two MHS students
who participated through the South Branch Career Center.
She also described the excellent “Career Day” at MHS.
- Mr.
Whetzel reported on the continuing success of the middle schools at the
Regional Science Fair and commended Mr. Hardy. He also reported that two students from EHHS were
regional winners and will go on to State competition in the Science Fair –
John Brennskag and Steven White.
The next meeting
of the Hardy County Board of Education is scheduled for April 4, 2005 at the
Hardy County Board of Education Office.
