following is provided as an unofficial summary of the above dated meeting of the
Hardy County Board of Education. Official

SUMMARY
In
major action the Board did review and approve the proposed budget for 2005-2006.
Highlights of the budget proposal includes funding for Extension
Services, use of projected surplus (approximately $12,000) for summer
maintenance projects and efforts to maintain personnel at formula.
In other actions:
Ø
The Board reviewed recommendations from the WVDOE for work to be done at
MHS.
Ø
Summer mowing contracts were awarded for each school.
Ø
The board went on record (4-1) to oppose HB 2365 County Boards of
Education.
Ø
Information was provided on water damage at MES due to a water heater.
Ø
The Board reviewed the final OEPA report for MMS.
Ø
Information was provided on the regional grant received by Hardy County
to address the needs of teacher training in new math standards.
Ø
The Board discussed upcoming meetings including: April 11th -
session on five-year plan; May 2nd – EHHS to hear Imagination /
Destination presentations; May 16 – Student Recognition activities and
recognition of employees the first week of May.
Ø
Student transfer requests were approved.
Ø
An update was provided on the electric / water situtation at EH schools .
Public Comment:
Ø
Larry Salyers: Questions regarding job responsibilities, access to
information on the upcoming Budget, and request for administrator salaries.
Ø
Teresa Fitzpatrick: Presented information on a truancy program sponsored
by the NEA.

Discussion was
held on central office reorganization, and this will be added to the next
meeting agenda.
Mission Statement
Accomplishments
- Mr.
Funkhouser recently attended the Health Fair at MMS; it was a great day.
- Mr.
Pack recognized the MMS track team and wished them success in their first
year of existence.
- Mr.
Fertig commended MMS for the excellent Health Fair.
He also thanked Mrs. Hammer for her work on the regional math grant.
- Mr.
Park wished good luck to the MHS band for participation in the Regional Band
Festival. He also thanked
everyone for their cards and prayers during his surgery.
- Mr.
Williams thanked the MES PTO for their letter to the SBA in support of the
multi-purpose room. We need
this type of support.
- Mrs.
Hammer commended the two students at EHHS for winning second and third place
at the State Science Fair – the first ever for EHHS.
- Mr.
Whetzel commended the county maintenance crew, they respond quickly to
emergencies and stay until the job is done.
The next regular
meeting of the Hardy County Board of Education is scheduled for April 19th,
2005, at the Hardy County Board of Education Office. The
Board will hold a special meeting on April 11th, 2005 at 6:30 p.m.
