Regular School Board Meeting

The
following is provided as an unofficial summary of the above dated meeting of the
Hardy County Board of Education. Official
copies of the minutes may be obtained, once they are approved by the Hardy

The first action was the required reconvening of the March 21st meeting to approve the levy rate for 2005-2006. Following this the regular meeting convened.
Presentations: Representatives of the Math Textbook Adoption Committee presented an overview of their recommendations for Mathematics textbook adoption for K – 12. The recommendations were approved. The Board commended all the committee members for their excellent and dedicated work.
The Board discussed the central office reorganization including their request of the Superintendent to address the need for an Assistant Superintendent. The reorganization, as previously presented, was approved.
In other actions:
Ø The SBA informed the Board of the denial of funding for the MIP project at Moorefield Elementary.
Ø Approved for First Reading Policies on Graduation Requirements (and regulations on Programs of Study), Distinguished Performance Award, Advanced Academic Award, and Modified Diploma.
Ø An update on HB – 2365 was presented by Mr. Pack.
Ø Approved a in-county transfer request.
Ø Approved a motion to have board minutes submitted to the Board for approval within two-weeks of the meeting unless there are extenuating circumstances. 3 yeas – 2 nays
Public Comment: Larry Salyers presented his opposition to the posting of an Assistant Superintendent position, how information should be sent to the local radio station, received clarification by Mr. Williams on the actual expenditure for central office administrators in several counties including Hardy, and how positions are actually titled, and he requested that the salaries of all school personnel be published in the paper.

Postings for 2005-2006:
Mission Statement Accomplishments: All board members commended the hard work, involvement and dedication of Mathematics Textbook Committee. In addition:
· Mr. Funkhouser noted that the prom for EHHS was another successful, and safe one.
· Mr. Fertig commended the success of the High School bands.
· Mr. Park reported that both bands had rankings of either 1 or 2 at the regional Band Competition. He also commended the successful EHHS prom.
· Mr. Williams commended the MHS Girls Softball team for winning the local “Eastern Heat” tournament.
· Mrs. Hammer commended the Middle and High School counselors for their excellent “Parent Nights” and the active participation of parents.
· Mr. Whetzel reported that EHHS/EHEM schools will receive a state environmental award for the operations of their wastewater treatment facilities.
The next meeting of the Hardy County Board of Education is scheduled for May 2, 2005 at East Hardy High School.
