Regular School Board Meeting

The following is provided as an unofficial summary of the above dated meeting of the Hardy County Board of Education. SUMMARY

Prior to the start of the meeting the Board participated in a two-hour training session with Howard O’Cull, Executive Director of the WVSBA. The Board reviewed the results of the Self Assessment Questionnaire conducted by the WVSBA.

Presentations: Mrs. Beverly Coppe and Mrs. Robin Williams, representing pre-school handicapped teachers, informed the Board of their plans for increasing home contacts and parent involvement for the upcoming school year. Fridays will be reserved for home-visits, and each family will be visited up to three times during the school year.

In other actions:

Ms. Whitecotton, Assistant Superintendent, provided the Board with information on the professional development plans for school improvement for the upcoming school year.

The Board reviewed the revisions to Graduation Policy IDK and approved these for the upcoming school year.

The Board was informed that the State Board of Education has requested to change the visiting date to Hardy County to the spring of 2006.

The annual report on grievance activities was presented to the Board. There was one Level IV Grievance filed against the Board, and it was denied by the State.

Mission Statement Accomplishments

Mr. Williams commended Mrs. Coppe and the preschool teachers for the excellent program to improve parent involvement.

Mr. Funkhouser commended Sara Vetter for the excellent new article on the Band and its improvements.

Mr. Pack commended the students of Hardy County for their participation in the Poultry Festival and Tri-County Fair. They represent our county well.

Mr. Fertig thanked Howard O’Cull for the excellent training session.

Mr. Park commended all school personnel for their active involvement and help with the Poultry Convention.

Ms. Whitecotton commended the service personnel in the central office for addressing the changes and their efforts to improve services and programs.

Mr. Whetzel commended the maintenance staff and school custodial staff for their work on the schools. They are looking great.

The next meeting of the Hardy County Board of Education is scheduled for August 15, 2005, at the Hardy County Board of Education Offices.
