Regular School Board Meeting

The
following is provided as an unofficial summary of the above dated meeting of the
Hardy County Board of Education. Official
copies of the minutes may be obtained, once they are approved by the Hardy

Ø Ms. Whitecotton presented an update on the Five-Year Strategic plan. It included a review of the action steps to accomplish the goals and objectives of the plan. The next step is a review by the planning committee –“Dream Team”.
Ø The Board reviewed the recommendations from Howard O’Cull regarding the Board Survey. Work was begun on the “Board Calendar” of activities for the school year.
In other actions:
Ø The Board reviewed the administrative calendar for 2005-2006.
Ø Bids for Milk and Bread were accepted.
Ø Curricular and Extra Curricular rates for 2005-2006 were set at $16.00 per hour for the driver and $1.50 per mile for the bus.
Ø Discussion was held on the proposed rates for teachers who voluntarily relinquish all or part of their planning periods to assume teaching responsibilities.
Ø Several out-of-county and in-county transfers were approved.
Ø Discussion was held on maintenance of school grounds.
Public Comment:
Ø Mr. Salyers, Mr. Matt Gapp and Mr. Steve Gapp requested an executive session for a personnel matter
Ø Bill Landis requested information on the status of bus repairs for the upcoming year.

Ø Beverly Mathias: Elementary/Multi-Subjects Teacher at MES (Transfer)
Ø Patricia Keller: School Secretary II / Accountant II at EHEMS, effective immediately.
Ø Elizabeth Fridley: Executive Secretary to the Superintendent, effective August 17.
Ø Jennifer Southerly: NCLB Paraprofessional at EHEM
Ø Alvin Foltz: Assistant Boys Basketball Coach at EHHS
Ø Henry Hodges: Volunteer Football Coach at MHS
Ø Garrick Haslacker: Assistant Football Coach at MHS
Ø Dalton Carr: Substitute Teacher
Ø Teddy Keplinger: Substitute Teacher

of assigned planning.
ATHLETIC
POSITIONS:
Ø
Athletic Trainer at Moorefield High School.
Must be present at all football games and practices.
Ø
Middle School Boys Basketball Coach at East Hardy Early/Middle School.
Mission Statement Accomplishments
Ø Mr. Williams commented on the great kids from Hardy County who were at the Tri-County Fair. They represented the county well.
Ø Mr. Funkhouser congratulated the staff for their efforts to secure personnel to fill the vacancies in the school system.
Ø Mr. Pack thanked Mrs. Whitecotton for her efforts to educate the Board in the school improvement process.
Ø Mr. Fertig commended the MHS Band Camp and the how much his daughter enjoyed the experience.
Ø Mr. Park noted that three Hardy County graduates are in the band at Shepherd University.
Ø Mrs. Hammer reported that the Service Personnel Academy was excellent and provided valuable training for staff.
Ø Ms. Whitecotton commended the work of administrators in preparing for the new school year-- very positive and ready to go.
Ø Mr. Whetzel commended the work of all staff in preparing for the new school year – everything will be ready to go.
The next meeting of the Hardy County Board of Education will be a special meeting scheduled for August 22, 2005 at 5:00 p.m. at the Hardy County Board of Education Offices. The primary topic will be personnel actions.
