In major action:
The Board was officially informed of the awarding of a $5.7 million allocation for the construction of the new Moorefield Intermediate School. Appreciation was extended to teach of the numerous individuals who made this possible. The Board approved the immediate sending out of a request for Architectural Services. Discussion was held on the possible completion date.
The Board met with Mr. Jeff Brown of Casto Technical. He presented an overview of his firm and the services that have been provided to Hardy County since the 1980s. Discussion was held on several topics:
1) Contracted Services: A review of the numerous services provided to maintain HVAC systems including preventive maintenance, repairs and cost avoidance. The Board requested a proposal for expanding the service at MMS to include repairs.
2) Energy Conservation: Information was provided on the national standards for workplace temperatures. The Board requested this information to review.
3) Electrical Services at MHS: The cost for a complete air conditioning system was roughly estimated at approximately $300.000. The current electrical services to the old section of the building would require a complete evaluation by an electrical engineer in order to safely address additional electrical load. The Board requested that this be conducted and that the option of replacing the existing air conditioners with modern units also be explored.
Appreciation was extended to Mr. Brown for his service to Hardy County Schools.
In other action:
The Board conducted a second reading and approval of the following policies:
The Board reviewed the EHHS Building Trades project for construction of a modular. It was agreed that the rooms would be built at the EHHS site. The Board will review the proposed site prior to construction.
