The
following is provided as an unofficial summary of the above dated meeting of the
Hardy County Board of Education. Official
copies of the minutes may be obtained, once they are approved by the Hardy
County Board of Education, by contacting Jeanette Keller, Executive Secretary to

SUMMARY
The meeting began
with several pubic comments:
- Mr.
Larry Salyers presented a letter to the board regarding Board member visits
to schools, bidding questions, dropouts, and staff communications.
He was informed that a response would be provided.
- Mr.
Matt Gapp addressed the Board regarding the MHS facility, discussions with
Mr. Williams, the chain of command, administrative communications, and
the upcoming contract for the Superintendent.
- Ms.
Jackie Zirk addressed the Board with regard to the Special Education program
at MHS and her observations and involvement with students around the school.
She requested information on the Special Education budget and the
certification of teachers. Additional
comments addressed the availability of funds for new tables.
In other actions:
- The
Board reviewed the Junior ROTC program requirements.
Discussion was held on the feasibility and impact of such a program.
Additional information would be required before any action to
proceed.
- The
Board was notified that the Superintendents Evaluation Policy was approved
by the State. They then
approved this policy for Hardy County Schools.
- Information
was provided on the training and activities of the recent Board Retreat,
especially its focus on the new Five-year Plan requirements.
- Student
transfers were approved for a student to attend Kindergarten next year and a
student to enroll in Grant County.

- The
Board conducted its annual evaluation of the Superintendent and reported
the results. The
Superintendent was offered, and accepted, a continuation of his contract for
two years, with the salary set at $75,000 for 2005-2006 (same as this year)
and $80,000 for 2006 2007.

Accomplishments
- Mr.
Funkhouser commended the work that went into the Board retreat and the
excellent work that was accomplished.
- Mr.
Pack commented on the excellent MMS Science Fair and the work of Mr. Hardy,
Ms. Wilking, and others.
- Mr.
Fertig commended all the employees who are retiring for their contributions
of so many years of service to the students of Hardy County.
- Mr.
Park stated how proud he was of the recent OEPA evaluation of MMS and the
many commendations.
- Mr.
Williams reported on Nicole Riggleman and the efforts of the National Honor
Society at MHS in their recent blood drive.
He reported that the MHS Girls Basketball team had more scholar
athletics recognized than the rest of the PVC combined.
- Mrs.
Hammer commended Mr. Sine and the EHEM Science Fair.

- Mr.
Whetzel extended appreciation to the Board for the renewal of his contract
and the opportunity to continue to serve the students of Hardy County.
The next meeting
of the Hardy County Board of Education is scheduled for February 28, 2005, 7:00
p.m. at the School Board Office.
