following is provided as an unofficial summary of the above dated meeting of the
Hardy County Board of Education. Official

SUMMARY
The meeting began with several public comments:
- Lola
Powell commended the teachers for the way they have assisted her children.
She urged the Board to treat any employees who signed the petition
supporting her husband fairly.
- Matt
Gapp read a statement asking the Board to dismiss the Superintendent.
The Board took actions on the following:
- Approved
Policies on Volunteer Coaches and Substitute Service Personnel as written,
and approved the policy on Student Attendance with one modification related
to tardies for students on block schedules.
- Rejected
the State Insurance offer for the destroyed bus.
- Approved
a WVEA resolution for a pay raise for all school personnel.
- Approved
the updated guidelines on Head Lice and asked that a statement be included
to urge that care be taken in dealing with infected students.
- Heard
a report from Mr. Ken Pack on the Legislative Agenda proposed by the West
Virginia School Boards Association.
- Approved
an in-county transfer for next year.

Mission Statement Accomplishments:
- Mr.
Funkhouser commended the East Hardy Schools for their assistance during the
explosion in Mathias.
- Mr.
Pack extended appreciation to the work of the WVSBA for their assistance to
school systems.
- Mr.
Fertig reported on the Education Week evaluation of West Virginia, which
included an A for Standards and Accountability.
- Mr.
Park commended the participation of the MHS Band in the Shepherd University
Honors Band. It was an
excellent experience for all students and especially his two sons.
- Mr.
Williams commended the Board members for their efforts to reach resolution
even if they may disagree on an issue.
- Mrs.
Hammer commended the County Math Team for their work on Standards Based
Mathematics programs and the Five-year plan.
- Mr.
Whetzel reported that RESA VIII is fully interactive via internet broadcast
and that Hardy County served as one of the test sites for the inclusion of
the West Virginia Board of Education to include this in their meetings.
The next meeting of the Hardy County Board of Education is
scheduled for January 31, 2005 at the Hardy County Board of Education Offices.
