The
following is provided as an unofficial summary of the above dated meeting of the
Hardy County Board of Education. Official

SUMMARY
In major action:
- The
Board reviewed the work that has been scheduled at MES on the multi-purpose
room roof. Two roofing
companies and an engineer representing the WVDOE have inspected the roof,
and no structural problems have been found.
Patching has been completed and a new roof is to be installed in
March. The Board directed that
a letter be sent to all appropriate individuals regarding the work that was
done and the need for assistance in completing the remaining roofing to be
done as soon as possible.
- The
Board accepted the insurance settlement of $25,000 for the destroyed bus.
- The
Board approved a right-of-way request for Hardy Telecommunications at
Moorefield Middle School.
In other action:
- The
Board reviewed RESA enrollment changes showing the growth of RESA VIII and
set February 28th for the annual meeting with the RESA Director.
- The
Board approved two out-of-county transfer requests.
- The
Board reviewed the spring meeting calendar.
- The
Board discussed the attendance of Board members at Faculty Senate meetings.
- The
Board received a request to add WSIG radio in Harrisonburg on the school
closure call list.
- The
Board received additional petition names from Mr. Matt Gapp.
- The
Board met in executive session with two parents on a personnel matter.

Accomplishments
- Mr.
Funkhouser commended the bus drivers for their excellent work during the bad
weather. Reported that Carol
Ann Funkhouser was a State semi-finalist in the Wendys Scholarship Award.
- Mr.
Pack thanked all the individuals who are retiring for their years of
dedicated service to the students of Hardy County.
- Mr.
Fertig recognized Governor Manchin for his efforts to address the issues
facing the state of WV.
- Mr.
Park reported on the FFA attendance of l26 students at the Leadership
Conference and the participation of Hardy County Students at the Region IX
Band Festival.
- Mr.
Williams noted that he enjoyed his recent visits to several schools.
He was impressed by the outstanding work that was going on with
students throughout the schools.
- Mr.
Whetzel recognized Mr. Dennis Funk, bus driver, for going to Cedar Lakes a
day early to insure that the students there would be able to get home in the
case of bad weather.
The next regular
meeting of the Hardy County Board of Education is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. on
February 14th at the Hardy County Board of Education Office.
A special meeting will be held February 7th to address a
student expulsion and any personnel actions that may arise.
