Regular School Board Meeting

The following is provided as an unofficial summary of the above dated meeting of the Hardy County Board of Education. SUMMARY

The meeting began with Senator Clark Barnes presenting the Board with the recently released Microsoft Vouchers in the amount of $13, 626.18. These are funds which may be used to purchase Microsoft or Microsoft compatible software. The funds were secured through a lawsuit filed by the State of WV against the company. The Board welcomed Senator Barnes and discussed with him the needs of Hardy County Schools.

Ms. Whitecotton, Assistant Superintendent for School Improvement, presented the Board information and an overview on the School Improvement process training that has been conducted by the State. Discussion was held on the future planning and work that is to be conducted regarding our Five Year Plan. The Board was informed that there would be a presentation at each future Board Meeting regarding some aspect of the School Improvement process.

In other actions:

The Board received the official audit of Hardy County Schools for the 2004-2005 school year. It was an excellent report, and there were no findings for the year. The Board commended everyone and especially Mrs. Burgess for their efforts.

The Board reviewed the results of the self-assessment conducted through the WVSBA. Upon review it was decided to contact the WVSBA regarding how best to follow-up on the results.

The Board approved a surplus sale to be conducted in late July, early August.

Sherry Barb: Transferred to Food Service Supervisor, Central Office effective July 21.

Mission Statement Accomplishments

Mr. Williams commended the efforts of the County Extension Service for their successful efforts in conducting the summer camps.

Mr. Funkhouser congratulated Mr. Steve Payne as the new State Superintendent of Schools.

Mr. Fertig commended and thanked Senator Barnes for his visit to the Board.

Mr. Pack commended Mr. and Mrs. Terry Hardy for their work over the summer at MMS in keeping the flower gardens tended.

Mr. Park noted that the MMS summer program is going well and is a wonderful activity for students. They are enjoying the activities and learning.

Mrs. Hammer welcomed the new people to the office and their efforts to work together.

Ms. Whitecotton thanked the Board for their positive reactions and support for the school improvement efforts.

Mr. Whetzel commented on the efforts to secure new personnel and the success in attracting outstanding applicants.

The next meeting of the Hardy County Board of Education is scheduled for July 18, at the Hardy County Board of Education Office.
