following is provided as an unofficial summary of the above dated meeting of the
Hardy County Board of Education. Official

SUMMARY
The
meeting began with a reception and recognition of the following:
Hardy
County Schools Teacher of the Year - Nominees were:

Kay Haggart - MES
·
Jane Kessel – MMS
·
Rachel Schetrom – MHS
·
Joyce Straderman – EHEM, and
·
The Hardy County Teacher of the Year – Debra Branson – EHHS.
Mrs. Branson will now go on to State Competition.
Mrs.
Sharon Champ was recognized for receiving WV Cook of the Year.
The
Board extended appreciation to each individual for their accomplishments and
representation of Hardy County Schools.
In other actions:
- The
Board reviewed the work of the Dream Team and the draft of Core Beliefs,
Responsibilities, and Goals for the Five-Year Plan.
The committee was commended for their work.
An update was provided on the next steps in the process.
- The
Board reviewed the Step 7 funding plan.
- An
out-of-county student transfer was approved.

Mission Statement
Accomplishments:
All Board Members
commended the teachers and Mrs. Champ for their achievements.
- Mr.
Funkhouser congratulated both graduating classes and the success of the
after-graduation activities.
- Mr.
Pack reported on attending the County-Wide Art Show and congratulated all
the students. A special thanks was extended to the Friends of the
Library for sponsoring this activity.
- Mr.
Fertig commended the outstanding graduates and their high academic
achievement.
- Mr.
Park commented on 80% of Hardy County Schools achieving “Schools of
Excellence” status. He
thanked everyone for his or her efforts, and commented on the excellent
Leadership Conference from the WVSBA.
- Mr.
Williams commended Reed Williams, MHS Valedictorian, for his comments at
graduation regarding Hardy County being a wonderful place to live.
- Mrs.
Hammer commended the team of teachers and business representatives who
assisted with the Teacher of the Year Selection.
- Mr.
Whetzel reported that Monday was the last day for students.
Another successful year for Hardy County Schools!
The next meeting
of the Hardy County Board of Education is scheduled for June 20th,
2006. It will be held at Moorefield
High School Library to recognize retiring personnel.
There will be a training session for Board members on June 13th,
7:00 p.m. at the Board Office. This
will not be an official meeting of the Board.
