The
following is provided as an unofficial summary of the above dated meeting of the
Hardy County Board of Education. Official
copies of the minutes may be obtained, once they are approved by the Hardy

SUMMARY
The meeting began
with several group presentations:
- Hardy
County Extension Service: Mr. Dave Workman, on behalf of the Extension
Service, provided the Board with its annual update and request for funding
for the 2005-2006 School Year. Appreciation
was extended to the Extension Service for their excellent work on behalf of
the youth of Hardy County.
- Cops
in Schools: Sheriff Ferrell introduced Deputy Scott Combs who will serve as
the School Resource Officer for Hardy County Schools.
A review of the program was provided and discussion held on the
training and implementation of the program next school year.
Appreciation was extended to the Sheriff’s Department for their
efforts.
In other actions:
- The
Board received an update on the first semester attendance reports.
The attendance truancy actions and dropout rates demonstrated
excellent efforts on behalf of the schools.
- An
update was provided on the recent Board member meetings with Central Office
Directors and Principals.
- An
update was provided on the last meeting of the Strategic Planning “Dream
Team”. The Board discussed a
future work session to review the work and provide input.
- Policy
GEE – Volunteer Coaches was revised and sent out for a first reading.
- Educational
Leave was granted for two EHHS students.
- The
guidelines for the school calendar for 2005-2006 were reviewed, and Mr.
Williams was selected to serve on the committee.
Public Comment:
- Mr.
Larry Salyers addressed the Board regarding the renewal of the
Superintendents contract and the collecting of information by the Board
members.
- Mr.
Matt Gapp addressed the Board regarding the information included in the
Board of Education news article in the last edition of the Moorefield
Examiner and his actions.

Mission Statement
Accomplishments
- Mr.
Funkhouser commended the positive approach of Mr. Workman and the Extension
Committee in presenting their request. He commended the Sheriff’s Department for their
efforts and congratulated the EHHS Girls Basketball team for their sectional
win.
- Mr.
Pack thanked the participants for their work on the Dream Team.
The efforts of staff and community to improve the school system are
appreciated.
- Mr.
Fertig commended the work of the Hardy County Extension agents for their
excellent work.
- Mr.
Park noted that the Ham, Bacon and Egg show is scheduled for March 10th.
He urged everyone to help and feels this is a great demonstration of
community involvement.
- Mr.
Williams commended the efforts of the EHEM PTO to start a positive parent
interaction program.
- Mrs.
Hammer reported that March is Fine Arts month and commended the teachers and
students for their work.

- Mr.
Whetzel reported that EHHS and MHS have both submitted applications for West
Virginia Schools of Excellence. He
congratulated both schools.
The next meeting
of the Hardy County Board of Education is scheduled for March 7, 2005 at EHHS,
7:00 p.m.
