The
following is provided as an unofficial summary of the above dated meeting of the
Hardy County Board of Education. Official

SUMMARY
Presentations:
- DreamQuest:
Students under the direction of Mrs. Kelican presented the projects
that will be presented at the State DreamQuest competion.
Presentors were: Jacob
Miller, T. J. Miller, Sarah Wilkins, Kendra McKeever.
- Destination
Imagination: Students under the direction of Mrs. Hubbard presented the
project that was a State winner and will be presented at
the Global Competition. Presentors
were: Jacob Smith, Ben Smith,
Sam Hubbard, Jessica Perdue, Misty Sager, Willie Poe.
- Reading
First: Debbie Hubbard presented
an update on the success of the Reading First Grant and its impact on
students at EHEM. Information,
citing the outstanding work, was shared from the recent State audit of the
program.
The Board reviewed
Policy JDBA – Use of Cell Phones / Electronic Devices, and sent out for
comment.
The Board reviewed
the draft of the proposed school calendar.
Additional review will be conducted and brought to the Board at its next
meeting.
Discussion was
held on the position of Child Nutrition Specialist.
Motion was made by Mr. Pack for this to be full-time position.
Motion died for lack of a second.
Several student
transfers were approved.
Public Comment:
Several individuals requested to meet with the Board in Executive Session
regarding a personnel matter.

Sisk: Child Nutrition
Specialist, ½ time to be combined with her current program, 240 days,
effective July 1, 2005.
- Sandra
Stump: Transferred, at her
request, to Accountant III, 240 days – Central Office, effective July 1,
2005.

Mission Statement
Accomplishments
- Mr.
Funkhouser commended the EHEM staff and Mrs. Hubbard for their great work.
- Mr.
Fertig commended the MMS Band for its excellent performance.
These students have a great future in band.
- Mr.
Park reported on the excellent FFA Banquet, the students did an excellent
job.
- Mr.
Pack commended the EHHS DreamQuest and Destination Imagination students for
their creative work. They will
be excellent representatives of Hardy County.
- Mrs.
Hammer noted that MHS will have a number of students participating through
the South Branch Technical center at DreamQuest – a county total of 17
students.
- Mr.
Whetzel noted the few RIFs and transfers, along with the work that goes on
to inform staff of their positions and changes for upcoming years.
The next meeting
of the Hardy County Board of Education is scheduled for May 9, 2005 at East
Hardy High School.
