SUMMARY

 

The Board conducted a further review of “A Framework for Understanding Poverty”.  Discussion was held on a number of items addressed in the book.  Suggestion was made to consider setting up a “parent” book study.

 

The Board received a presentation on the Curriculum Mapper software program and its implementation into the school system.  The goals, operation and purpose were reviewed.

 

Mr. Hunter Williams announced his resignation from the Board effective January 27, 2006.  This resignation is due to his plans to run for the office of County Commissioner.  Mr. Ray Funkhouser will serve as interim Chair.  The Board will consider appointment of a replacement as per state code.

 

Policy BDE – Executive Session.  Mr. Pack presented extensive revisions for the policy.  The Board elected to review these comments for the next meeting.

 

Discussion was held on the annual Board Retreat.  It was decided to hold the retreat later in February, possibly the 17th, and look into the possibly of a one-day session at a location in Hardy County.

 

The Board received information on the ordering of kitchen equipment for MHS and EHHS.  Due to the time it took to secure bids and insure the correct items the Board directed the Superintendent to conduct a review of purchasing procedures.

 

The Board reviewed Fire Marshall Reports for several years and was informed that a letter had been sent to the State Fire Marshall regarding last year’s inspection.

 

Approval was granted for a student to continue attending Grant County Schools.

 

Board Members received the Architectural Proposals for Services for the new Intermediate School.  A work session will be set up in February for Board Members to interview firms.

           $25.00 per hour, four hours weekly (paid through SI Grant at East Hardy Early Middle School)

?          After School Program for Enrichment at East Hardy Early Middle School (position at Wardensville).  Must be elementary certified, $25.00 per hour, four hours

           weekly (paid through SI Grant at East Hardy Early Middle School)

?          Before/After School – Extended Time Program – Moorefield Middle School – 2 teachers at $25.00 per hour for 9 weeks and then $20.00 per hour for three weeks

          (paid through SI Grant).  One teacher at $20.00 per hour per week for 12 weeks (paid through Migrant Grant).  Each position is 3 days per week and 1 ½ hours

           per day.  Preference given to teachers at the school.  Must be certified in Middle School.
