The following in provided as an unofficial summary of the above dated meeting of the Hardy County Board of Education. SUMMARY
The meeting began with the swearing in of the newly elected Board Members, Margaret Shriver, Rick Perkins and Ken Pack. In the Board re-organization Mr. Ray Funkhouser was elected President and Mr. Ken Pack Vice President.
Presentations:
Pre-School Program: The Board was provided an update on the pre-school plan for 2006-2007. Included were the options for expansion of the program to encompass additional four year olds. Discussion is continuing with representatives of the Hardy County Day Care Center regarding an agreement. This will be brought to the Board upon completion. In attendance were Miriam Leatherman and Sandra Bradley representing the Day Care Center.
SRO Program: Deputy Bryan Ward presented an update on the program. Highlights included: new aerial photographs of all sites to assist in crisis planning, collaboration on a grant for additional safety equipment and a grant to provide a generator for EHHS, collaboration with the State Fire Marshall and other emergency agencies on crisis planning and continued work with children over the summer in various camps.
In Other Actions:
MIS: An update was provided on the project. Included was an initial plan for the configuration of the building and traffic pattern, as reviewed by the MIS Building Committee. The architect is to proceed with these to develop specific plans. Information on the possible impact of any archeology findings was presented.
Enrollment/Budget: The Board was informed that the school system would end the year without a deficit. However, enrollment figures show a continual decline with current enrollment the same as the second month of 2001. Due to personnel over formula, careful monitoring of the budget/enrollment must continue.
EHHS Classrooms: The Board reviewed and approved the proposed layout for the EHHS Building Trades construction of classrooms at EHHS.
Policy BBIA Title I Parent Involvement and Policy KBH Parent/Community Involvement both were approved as presented.
Policy JDJ Student Attendance Is to be sent out for review by Principals for possible further revisions.
MMS Canopy Project The Board reviewed the bids for the canopy project at MMS. The bids exceeded the available funds. Direction was given to work on alternate plans and or funding sources.
Board Responsibilities The Board reviewed the various committees and Board responsibilities and agreed upon assignments.
OEPA Audit The Board received a follow up on the OEPA audit. It showed the MMS and Hardy County Schools were recommended for Full Accreditation. Information on the various impacts of the results of Westest for 2005-2006 was provided.
Revised Agenda Discussion was held and a revised order of the agenda items for Board of Education meetings was approved. Discussion was held on a Code of Conduct for Board Meetings and this is to be addressed at the next Board meeting.
Public Comment:
Larry Salyers: Read various sections of the State Board Policy 6200 related to indoor air-quality and transportation garages. Asked the Board to review this policy and personally review job descriptions for service personnel.

Mission Statement Accomplishments:
? Mr. Ray Funkhouser Extended appreciation to the school systems Administration for another successful year without a budget deficit.
? Mr. Ken Pack Welcomed the new Board Members and is looking forward to working together.
? Mr. Max Park Welcomed the two new, and one re-elected, Board Members. Appreciate their energy and work to keep Hardy County moving forward.
? Mr. Rick Perkins Noted the different perspective when sitting on the Board. Looking forward to positively working with the county to succeed.
? Mrs. Margaret Shriver Noted the letter in the information packet from a national presenter who praised the quality and caring of Hardy County Teachers.
? Mrs. Sharon Hammer Welcomed the Board Members. Commended the staff that participated in the recent academy and the work of Dr. Smith at WVU who assisted in providing graduate credit.
? Mr. Ronald Whetzel Recognized Mrs. Betty Bosley on her retirement and commended her for the years of service to the students. Thanked the following for their assistance in preparation of the grants to assist Hardy County Schools: Angie Curl-Regional 8, Rose Helmick-County Commissioners Office and Laura Snyder-Sheriffs Department.
The next regular meeting of the Hardy County Board of Education is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at the Hardy County Board of Education Office on July 17, 2006.
