SUMMARY

Presentations:

Golden Horseshoe – Mr. Jim Sisler, WV History Teacher – MMS and Jackie Riggleman, student, make a power point presentation to the Board regarding the recent Golden Horseshoe awards in Charleston.  Mr. Sisler was presented with a Knight of the Golden Horseshoe award.  The Board extended congratulations to the teacher and student.

Mr. Wade Armentrout – Principal – MMS, met with the Board to review his school schedule changes for next year.  The Board was provided information on the need for schedule changes, the extensive work that went into its development, and the impact on student achievement and staff schedules for next year.  The Board extended appreciation to Mr. Armentrout for his efforts.

FBLA – Mrs. Sheila Kelican, Business Teacher at EHHS, presented an update on the fund raising for the FBLA trip to Nashville, Tennessee.  She reported that they were only $49.00 short of their goal and Mrs. Dixie Bean, Board Member, made a contribution to cover the remaining amount.  Appreciation was extended to the teacher and students for their hard work.

In Other actions:

The Board received an update on the budget for 2005-2006.  It was reported that though it is very tight the school system would end the year in the Black.  Permission was also granted for the school system to close out the school year transfers and report these at the first meeting in July.

Information was provided on the status of window air conditioners at MHS.  While the installation can meet fire marshal code it was reported that both the WVDOE and SBA stated such units would not meet State Policy 6200 as they do not meet indoor air quality requirements.  As a result the required approval of a modification to the CEFP most likely would not be granted.  The Superintendent was directed to have a detailed plan prepared for the replacement of the existing electrical service and installation of a complete system for the “old” section of MHS.  This would then be directed to the SBA for potential findings, as well as seeking other possible sources.

An update on the plans for the new Moorefield Intermediate School was presented.  This included the different plans for the facility, location and traffic flow needs.  The Board expressed concerns about several areas.  Information is to be forwarded to the architect and the next planning meeting is scheduled for June 28, 2006 at3:00 p.m., School Board Office.

An update was provided on the collaborative efforts to address the requirement to provide instruction for all four year olds.  Included in the discussions are Hardy County School, Moorefield Day Care Center, Head Start and DHHR.  A revised plan will be reviewed with the Board at its next meeting.

Public Comment:
