SUMMARY

 

The East Hardy Early Middle School and East Hardy High School LSIC made their annual presentation to the Board.  Included in the presentation was information on their school goals to meet student achievement requirements under NCLB, activities and success.  Each school also presented items for the Board to consider for the future.  Appreciation was extended by the Board for their hard work.

 

Deputy Brian Ward, School Resource Officer, presented an update on his activities over the last month.  Items addressed included Campus Security Assessments, Crisis Planning, Crisis Preparation, Security, Education and Evaluation.

 

 

Board Items:

 

?          Requested architectural services for the proposed classrooms at EHHS;

?          reviewed the electrical engineers report on the water heaters at MES.  The report stated that these were in compliance with national code;

?          reviewed the electrical engineers reports on electric service at MHS. The report stated that the existing electrical service be replaced before any heating, air conditioning or ventilation equipment is added.  The Board moved to secure additional study by a local electrician to determine if the electric service can handle additional window air conditioning units;

?          reviewed and approved the offering of an expanded Section 125 Cafeteria Plan for all school employees;

?          reviewed Policy GBM – Travel Regulations and approved the first reading, a revision addressing use of vehicles by maintenance personnel;

?          reviewed the procedures for addressing reclassification of service personnel.  No action was taken;

?          received an update on maintenance actions at EHEMS related to HVAC and kitchen bathroom.  All items had been corrected;

?          discussed a policy on custodial equipment and supplies.  To be reviewed at the next meeting;

?          approved two out of county student transfers for Kindergarten enrollment for 2006-2007.

Public Comments:

 

·        Larry Salyers:

?          Noted that the MES water heaters comply with state code;

?          stated that MHS has 110 outlets and should proceed with purchasing the window air conditioning units;

?          inquired as to reasons for using an electrical engineer from out of state.

 

 

 

·        Matt Gapp:

?          Inquired and received information on the status of maintenance actions on repairs of gas leaks and gas fumes;

?          inquired as to the actions that were taken with regard to the MHS School lockdown of November 9, 2005;

?          should he seek law enforcement investigation into his claim of theft of school property?

 

·        Bill Landis:

?          Discussed with the Board the conversion of the storage building at the School Board Office into a bus garage.

Mission Statements:

?          Mr. Ray Funkhouser commended the EHHS and EHEMS LCIS’s for their excellent presentations.  Noted how clean EHEMS was;

 

?          Mrs. Dixie Bean noted the excitement and enthusiasm of the EHEMS staff for the Reading First program;

 

?          Mr. Philip Fertig reported that he had been involved with the WV Extension and 4H Club attendance at a Leadership Conference – a great experience!

 

?          Mr. Ken Pack commended Mr. Butch Miller for his work on the classrooms for EHHS;

 

?          Mr. Max Park congratulated the EHHS choir for their selection to perform a the State Basketball Tournament;

 

?          Mrs. Barbara Whitecotton commended the EHEMS Leadership team for their work and the efforts of Mr. Rodney Woods with this group;

 

?          Mr. Ronald Whetzel commended the work of the EHEMS Band, and Mr. Bob Thompson, for their work in preparation for the State Band Competition.

 

The next meeting of the Hardy County Board of Education is scheduled for March 20, 2006 at Moorefield Elementary School.
