The following is provided as an unofficial summary of the above dated meeting of the Hardy County Board of Education. SUMMARY
Presentations:
Dr. John Hough, Executive Director RESA VIII, made his annual presentation to the Board. Information was provided on the support for student achievement, teacher preparation, technology enhancement and public service. The Board extended appreciation for his efforts and the services provided through RESA VIII.
Deputy Brian Ward, School Resource Officer, provided his monthly update. Included were the efforts to secure additional grant funding, planning for a cooperative Crisis Planning program, and the recent SRO training he attended in Richmond.
Board Items:
Information was provided to the Board regarding future facilities needs as identified in the Comprehensive Educational Facilities Plan and items identified in past Bond Levies. This was part of the ongoing discussion regarding Excess Levy information and options. It was agreed that further discussion needs to be held continued regarding this item.
Policy BBIA Title I Parent Involvement Policy and Policy KBH Parental/Community Involvement in Student Education were sent our for first readings.
Information on the use of videotapes from the WVSBA for training was provided. A future training session will be scheduled.
A report in Education Week magazine was presented that showed West Virginia led the nation in technology usage and standards. Additional information was provided that showed Hardy County Schools led the state of West Virginia in these same areas.
An In-County Student transfer was approved.
Public Comments:
? Larry Salyers commended on the recent State Board Meeting in Hardy County as compared to the recent State Superintendent visit to Grant County.
? Steve Gapp congratulated the newly elected and re-elected Board Members and commented on future elections. He had several comments related to the gas lines, status of air conditioners at MHS and past comments at Board Meetings.

Mission Statement Accomplishments:
? Mr. Ray Funkhouser commended the FFA Banquet at MMS and EHHS. They were great events and done very well.
? Mrs. Dixie Bean thanked Mr. Fertig for his years of service to Hardy County Schools as a Board Member. He was always supportive of the needs of the students.
? Mr. Philip Fertig commended on his recent trip with the MHS Band to Canton, Ohio. It was a great trip and the students were terrific.
? Mr. Ken Pack thanked all the support staff that worked behind the scenes to make our school events successful. They do a great job.
? Mr. Max Park noted the leadership skills being taught through FFA to our students. This is outstanding and the teachers do a great job.
? Mrs. Sharon Hammer commended on the visits she conducted to the schools with several State Board Members. They were most impressed with the work of students and staff.
? Mrs. Barbara Whitecotton reported that she had a great week of visiting schools and attending school events. She saw a school system full of great staff and students.
? Mr. Ronald Whetzel congratulated Mrs. Smouse, EHEMS, and Mr. Sisler, MMS, for their state recognition as Knights of the Golden Horseshoe.
The next regular meeting of the Hardy County Board of Education is scheduled for June 5, 2006 at Moorefield High School.
