The following is provided as an unofficial summary of the above dated meeting of the Hardy County Board of Education. SUMMARY
Presentation:
? Mr. Bob Thompson, Band Director, led the EHHS Jazz Band in the performance of several selections. The Board commended the students and Mr. Thompson for their excellent performance.
School Improvement Presentations:
? Ms. Barbara Whitecotton continued the book study with the Board Members on Differentiated Instruction. Members reviewed examples of how instruction can be addressed, received an update on the work of the DI Teams in each school, and reviewed the graphic overview of the entire program.
In Other Actions:
? The Board continued their review of the Five-Year Plan for Hardy County Schools.
? Policy JFE Student and Staff Wellness Policies on Physical Activity and Nutrition Information was reviewed along with received comments. The Board requested further revisions and requested additional information. Action will be carried over pending further review of policy.
? The Board reviewed the Grant Writer position and agreed to continue the posting for 30 days and broaden the advertisements for the contract.
? The Board received information on the proposed Alternative Education Program for Hardy County Schools for the school year. Along with the instructional component would be services provided by E.A. Hawse to handle evaluation, student and family counseling, counseling and transition back to school. The Board approved implementation of the program as presented.
? The Board reviewed and approved the surplus bus bids for buses #11 and #19.
? An update was provided on the second month enrollment. Total enrollment has increased since last year from 2292 to 2344. However, this does not account for the FTE count for four-year olds, which will put the actual number closer to 2320. The increase is primarily in the four-year old program.

? Cynthia Walters addressed the Board regarding the offering of Spanish III for EHHS students next year.

Mission Statement Accomplishments:
? Mr. Ray Funkhouser commended the EHHS Band for their excellent job. Thanked Ms. Whitecotton for her work in School Improvement.
? Mr. Ken Pack reported on the Fall Festival at MMS and the great turn out. The experiences for the students were excellent. Thanked the community for their support.
? Mr. Max Park reported on the National FFA Convention and the awarding of American Farmer award to Jonathan Funk.
? Mr. Rick Perkins commended Joyce Alt, School Board Office Coordinator, for her excellent work in preparing and submitting reports to the State.
? Mrs. Margaret Shriver extended her appreciation to the EHHS Band for their performance, a great job.
? Ms. Barbara Whitecotton reported on the Career and Technical Education report for Hardy County. As compared to last year all date was submitted and students showed significant increases in achievement and completed status.
? Mr. Ronald Whetzel reported on the work of Mr. Eric Vidischak, Theatre Teacher at MHS. Presented Board Members with tickets to play The Venture of the Speckled Band to be performed on December 15th & 16th.
The next meeting of the Hardy County Board of Education is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at the Moorefield Middle School on November 13, 2006.
