The following is provided as an unofficial summary of the above dated meeting of the Hardy County Board of Education. SUMMARY
Presentations:
Hardy County Extension Service: Mr. Dave Workman presented the annual update for the Extension Service. Included was submission of the annual budget request for consideration by the Board.
School Resource Officer: Deputy Bryan Ward presented his regular update on activities. Included with his report was information on the efforts to secure regular visits by the Town of Moorefield drug dog to all sites and efforts to review grants for additional school resource officers.
School Improvement: Dr.s William and Thommie Percy presented information on tier work with Hardy County Staff. A review of their work in the areas of Differentiated Instruction Training, Compelling Conversations program and paraprofessional training were included. They were complimentary of the efforts of Hardy County staff to implement high quality and effective instructional practices.
Business Items:
? Mr. Rick Perkins was chosen by the Board to serve on the County-Wide Council on Productive and Safe Schools as required by the School Building Authority in order to participate in a proposed state-funding program to improve facility safety.
? The Board went on record in opposition to the changes in HB2063 addressing actions by individual Board Members, to submit a request to be sent to legislative leaders to support a 6% pay raise for employees and to go on record in support of the WVSBA efforts to address the impact of legislation passed in 2005 requiring adoption of GASY and GAPP accounting procedures which includes identifying individuals counties as liable for the PEIA retirements benefits which had previously been covered by the state.
Informational Reports:
Information was provided on the following: a report that Hardy County was one of nine counties that did not have a Level IV Grievance filed last year; an update on the efforts to identify and reroute sewer and drainage lines at MHS; an update on the repair of heating units at MMS; and an update on the efforts to provide substitute driver training. In addition Board Members reported on the recent mid-winder School Board Association Training.
Several Students transfer request were approved for the 2007-2008 school year.
Public Comments:
? Steve Gapp submitted a written request, as per county policy, for information on Board expenditures.
? Luther Whetzel addressed the Board regarding water/sewer test results and drug testing for employees.

? Blanche Sager Cook I EHEMS ½ time, three hours, twenty-nine minutes per day, effective February 21, 2007.
? Scott Hammer Mentor for Spanish Teacher in Alternative Certification Program MHS. Will be receiving a $600.00 stipend for the year.
? Scott Stutler Assistant Baseball Coach - MHS

Correction of Previous Personnel Action:
? Mrs. Debra Bransons retirement date is effective August 15, 2007, not June 30, 2007 as previously stated.
Mission Statement Accomplishments:
? Mr. Ray Funkhouser extended appreciation to the EHHS Vocational Department for their breakfast. Thanked the principals for their participation in the Board Work Session.
? Mr. Ken Pack thanked Mr. Hardman and his students for their invitation to the Board Members to help celebrate FFA week.
? Mr. Max Park reported on National FFA Week. Noted the informational reports on WELD and the great experience this is for students.
? Mr. Rick Perkins commented on an employee who is always cheerful, hardworking and is always a positive person to be around Mr. Landes Mutt Dove of East Hardy Early Middle School.
? Mrs. Margaret Shriver commended the work of Mr. Whetzel with regard to his efforts to address closing or the delay to open schools during bad weather.
? Ms. Barbara Whitecotton noted the work of the Principals throughout the day, the Board session and an after school training session, and the leadership they are exhibiting.
? Mr. Ronald Whetzel thanked Mrs. Margaret Shriver for her comments and noted that any decision is the result of numerous individuals and state agencies and extended appreciated to Mr. Moore for his efforts.
The next regular meeting of the Hardy County Board of Education is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at East Hardy High School on March 5, 2007. There will be a Board of Education work session on February 26, 2007, beginning at 9:00 a.m. at the Baker Fire Hall.
