The following is provided as an unofficial summary of the above dated meeting of the Hardy County Board of Education. SUMMARY
School Improvement Presentations:
? County Five-Year Plan: Ms. Barbara Whitecotton presented an update on the county plans. A review of the goals and objectives, past work, and plans for the upcoming year was included. The plan, as approved, continues the work previously began and as required by the state of West Virginia. Discussion is scheduled for future meetings regarding the plans implementation.
In Other Actions:
? Reviewed the bids for building construction for Moorefield Intermediate School. Initial bids were approximately 2.2 million over allocation from the School Building Authority. A request is being forwarded to the SBA for additional funding.
? The Board approved the recommendation from the Principal at EHHS to advertise for an extra-curricular contract for Spanish III, as a planning period reimbursement. If there is no interest this is to be posted as a one-period teaching position. The planning period buy-out will be at the previously established county rate.
? The EHHS FBLA was approved for a supplemental allocation for their trip to participate in the National Convention in Chicago.
? The Board opened bids for HVAC services for Hardy County Schools. Bids are to now be evaluated and brought back to the Board for approval at the next meeting.
? The Board approved the request for two new bus purchases, out of state funding, as recommended by the appointed committee.
? The Board approved the surplus sale of two buses and other equipment as identified by the school system.
? An out-of-county student transfer was approved for the upcoming school year.

Special Education Liaison to the Parent/Teacher Resources Center Team Contract position, must be certified in an area of Special Education, must be willing to work evenings and weekends, if necessary. Skills needed include the need to speak to a large group audience. Ability to speak Spanish is preferred, but not required. Must keep a portfolio and log of all activities. Work time is up to 20 hours weekly at $20.00 per hour. Minimum of least three years experience teaching special education students preferred.

? Director of Summer Migrant Program Moorefield Elementary School, 15 days at $1500.00 to direct program for summer migrant program at MES. Requires Reading Specialist endorsement ad elementary certification. Preference given to staff at MES.

? Varsity Cross Country Coach Moorefield High School through November 1, 2007. This program is funded through the Moorefield Boosters.
? Middle School Volleyball Coach Moorefield Middle School through November 1, 2007. This is funded through the Moorefield Boosters.
? Continue posting for Team/Coaching Assistant (Identified as a Volunteer Coach) Must have a high school diploma, background and reference check, and completed WVSSAC first aid and coach training for those applying who are not professional educators. These trainings must be completed before applying and being hired for the assignment. Must be eligible for a Coaching license from the WV Department of Education, and is responsible for all costs associated with the license. Previous coaching experience is also required. This individual will work directly under the supervision of the Head Coach, and will be responsible to the Principal or designee. Minimal pay of $1.00 per year/season, etc. These coaches are limited to the number of coaches per sport.
Approved the carry-over of 8 ½ days for Rita Walker, Central Office Secretary.
Mission Statement Accomplishments:
? Mr. Ken Pack thanked everyone for their assistance in operating the school system.
? Mr. Max Park noted the attendance of students at the summer academy at the South Branch Center. Participants show great enthusiasm and interest.
? Mr. Rick Perkins noted the excellent school websites and especially the one for MES. Urged everyone to check it out.
? Mrs. Margaret Shriver commended Mr. Boswell for the letter to the editor about him. This is an example of the type of behavior that is so important.
? Mrs. Sharon Hammer thanked the Athletic Directors for their work, scheduling and staffing efforts. Also commended the school and central office secretaries for completion of the work to close out the school year.
? Ms. Barbara Whitecotton thanked Diane Coffman, School Board Office Secretary, for her hard work and dedication.
? Mr. Ronald Whetzel welcomed Mr. Dick Hughes for the Moorefield Examiner. Extended appreciation on behalf of himself and the Hardy County Schools on the work of Ms. Diane Hypes. She will certainly be missed and did an outstanding job in reporting on the school system for so many years.
The next regular meeting of the Hardy County Board of Education is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at the Hardy County Board of Education Offices on July 2, 2007.
