SUMMARY
The meeting began with a student presentation on the “BeeBuddies” program at MHS. The program pairs up small groups of ninth graders with teachers who meet with the students regularly. The teacher and students work on areas that will assist the students to have a successful high school experience. Mr. Russell, Assistant Principal, directs the program. The following students conducted the presentation: Blair Goodall, Kelci Shirk, Sarah Leatherman, Sasha Nau and Sarah Koontz. The Board commended the students and MHS staff for this excellent program.
Mrs. Hammer, Director of Personnel, provided the Board information on the efforts to secure staff and the federal NCLB requirements for High Quality teachers. Included in the information was an assessment of the difficulties counties have in securing teachers and the efforts being taken in Hardy County to meet the requirements of NCLB.
The Board reviewed a number of policies related to Board Minutes and Agendas. Numerous recommendations were made regarding these policies. The Superintendent was directed to prepare new policies, addressing the selected revisions, and present them for further Board review.
The track program for MMS was approved for inclusion in Board approved extracurricular activities.
The Superintendent presented the Board with the latest report on the recognitions Hardy County Schools will receive under WV Achieves. These include Schools of Excellence, Exemplary Schools, High Performing Schools and a large number of special recognitions. Schools will be recognized in Charleston on November 9th and at a Board presentation in the future.
Several student transfers were approved.
