The following is provided as an unofficial summary of the above dated meeting of the Hardy County Board of Education. SUMMARY
Presentations:
« Moorefield Middle School Educational Feature: Mrs. Terry Thompson and Mrs. Stephanie Simmons presented a demonstration of the Co-Teaching model, a component of the AIM, Adolescents Intervention Modeling. They presented demonstrations of the teaching techniques being used by the staff to successfully address the various learning needs of students. The Board was most impressed and commended the school for their work.
« Compelling Conversations Book Study: Ms. Barbara Whitecotton continued the Compelling Conservations book study with the Board. The focus was on Chapter 2, addressing ‘The Shared Approach to Accountability”, how individual compelling conversations with teachers contribute to measurable Data Team goals?
« Financial Report: Mrs. Veeta Burgess presented the monthly financial update. The focus of the presentation was to provide additional details and review of the end-of-year fiscal close out of the school system.

« Policy GCBA – Critical Needs / Substitute Teachers: was approved with editorial changes.
« Policy GBM – Travel Regulations: was approved for the first reading and to be sent out for comment.
« Moorefield Intermediate School Update: An update on the progress of Moorefield Intermediate School was provided.
« Written response to Office of Child Nutrition onsite reviews: Mr. Whetzel reviewed the written report with the Board.
« Student Transfer Request: Several student transfers were approved.

« Luther Whetzel commented on the positive work of Mr. Steve Williams. Inquired regarding the classroom project at EHHS.

« K. Adam Kuykendall – Temporary Long term substitute school bus operator, to fill leave of absence, Durgon Hollow, Jenkins Hollow and a portion of Rt. 220; Rt. 220 from the Golf Course to CD Alt’s, effective October 17, 2007.

Postings: Service Personnel:
· Extra Duty Transportation Aide – Must meet bus at 6:30 a.m. to assist in transportation of student to school in the Moorefield attendance area, and return home in the afternoon. Must be able to meet schedule for employment. The applicant may be eligible for overtime under FSLA and is not to exceed two hours per day overtime as applied based on hourly/overtime rate.
· Temporary Long-term Substitute Bus Operator – to fill leave of absence. Branch Mountain to Mathias, Hollow, portion of Rt. 259 to Shoemaker Hollow, Lost City with minor deletions and extensions either way. Bus will be parked at Baker, or at or near the driver’s resident throughout the winter months.

The following postings, although some are filled with a long term substitute teachers,

An executive session on a personnel matter was conducted, as requested by a delegation led by John and Lisa Bayse.
Mission Statement Accomplishments:
« Mr. Ray Funkhouser commented on the letter just received verifying final completion of the fiscal audit and no findings. Commended Mrs. Burgess for her work.
« Mr. Kenneth Pack noted the accomplishments of Stephen White, EHHS, and Kyle Reedy, MHS, on making it to the State Golf Tournament.
« Mr. Max Park congratulated the MMS Football program for their perfect season. Noted the students will soon be attending the National FFA Convention and commented on the great opportunity this provides for students.
« Mr. Rick Perkins discussed the great opportunities provided at Camp Healthy Choice. Commended the individuals involved including Staff, Extension Services, Community and Service Personnel.
« Mrs. Margaret Shriver commented on the appearances of the grounds at MES and MHS, great job.
« Ms. Barbara Whitecotton commented the work of the Title I teachers and their efforts to prepare for the upcoming audit.
« Mr. Ronald Whetzel reported that Hardy County has been selected as one of 12 counties to pilot a new initiative on energy conservation.
The next meeting of the Hardy County Board of Education is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at East Hardy High School on October 15, 2007.
