The following is provided as an unofficial summary of the above dated meeting of the Hardy County Board of Education. SUMMARY

Proposed Budget 2007-2008:

Mrs. Veeta Burgess, Chief Financial Officer, presented information on the proposed budget for 2007-2008. Key points were:

« The Board is required to submit a balanced budget;

« The number of positions over formula is due to the efforts to reduce the number of students in Special Education;

« As the school system needs to address the cost for personnel over formula this will mean showing several line items beginning the year under funded, with the intent to supplement these if additional funds become available;

« The budget includes a number of items identified on an impact statement which are funding requirements that will impact the budget for next year;

« The key remains reducing the number of staff over formula for which no funding is provided.

The proposed budget remains approximately $500,000 under funded, even with the inclusion of the limited Reductions in Force and closing of positions that have been proposed.

Reduction in Force / Position Closing:

The Board approved the following personnel recommendations:

« The following Professional Educator will be placed on the Transfer List due to the reduction in force of their position:

· W. Leon Franklin

« The following Service Personnel will be terminated and placed on the preferred recall list due to the reduction in force:

· Rhonda “Susie” Dolly – Aide

· Kathy Beasley – Aide

· Anne Webster – Aide

· Sarah Sions – Aide

· Eileen “Rosie” Mongold – Aide

« The following extra curricular contracts held by non teacher coaches are terminated:

· Ritchie Baldwin

· Justin Williams

· Todd Snyder

· Calvin Mongold

· Chris Hahn

· Robert Kerr

· Richard Hamilton

On recommendation of the Superintendent, the Board approved the closing the following positions for the 2007-2008 school year:

« Half time Head Teacher – EHEMS / Special Education Teacher – EHHS

« Special Education Teacher – MMS

« Grade Four – MES

« English – MHS/EHHS

« CSR at MES (Federal funded position)

« Close of 4 Inclusion Aide positions

Pro Start Program:

The Board received information on the revision of the Family / Consumer Science program at EHHS (position vacant due to retirement) to “Pro-Start” a food service training program. This program would receive state funding for kitchen equipment and room improvements, expand vocational offerings, and meet the state requirements for a complete vocational program. The Board approved the implementing of this program.
