The following is provided as an unofficial summary of the above dated meeting of the Hardy County Board of Education. SUMMARY
Presentations:
« East Hardy High School FFA – Mr. Rodney Hardman and the FFA students of East Harsdy High School presented to the Board, an overview of the schools FFA activities. In celebration of FFA week they presented the Board with a gift of appreciation for their support. The Board extended appreciation for their hard work.
« West Virginia/Hardy County Extension Service annual report – Mr. Dave Workman, representing the Hardy County Extension Service presented the annual update. Included was the annual request for support of the programs. The Board recognized the contributions of this organization to the education of students.
Financial Update:
« Mrs. Veeta Burgess presented Budget information including the monthly financial report, bank reconciliation and check registry. She and Mr. Whetzel presented a report on the recent financial efficiency study conducted by the WVDOE. This was the second year of the study. In summary the operations of Hardy County Schools generally meet of exceed state wide efforts. The identifying cause of the current deficit was the effect of the school aide formula on counties who successfully reduce the number of special education students. Additional recommendations that were made to reduce operational cost will be studied for implementation.
Unfinished Business:
« Policy GBRA – Leave Policy revisions presentation – The Leave Policy was received by the Board for study and further consideration at the next meeting.
« Comprehensive Educational Facilities Plan/Needs Project – Facility needs and development of a new Ten Year Plan were discussed. The Board reaffirmed and approved continuation with the submission of the MHS Renovation as the Needs Project for 2008.
New Business:
« Caledonia Heights Road widening project – The Board approved the work to be done by the Hardy County Department of Highways in widening the Caledonia Heights road past MMS.
« Hardy County Parks and Recreation Report – Mr. Rick Perkins provided an update on the Hardy County Parks and Recreation. The Board was informed of the plans for a dedication of the Baker Park in the near future.
« HCEA – Legislative update / Budget Items – Mr. Brad Simmons and Ms. J.J. Butts, on behalf of the HCEA, presented an update on the work of the Legislature and the status of several bills including the Funding Formula and Employee Retirement. Information and concerns on the need to address the current budget deficit were presented.

« Extra Duty Assignment – (2) Cooks II, Camp Echo, Petersburg, WV – two Cook II positions for one week, Camp Echo, Petersburg, WV to provide all meals for Williamstown Elementary School Outdoor Program, contact basis with Hardy County Schools.
Student Teacher Observations:
« Nicole Snyder – will be completing her Student Teacher Observations with Mrs. Marion Marshall at Moorefield High School this semester.
Positives:
¬ All Board members commended the work of the FFA, staff and students, and the benefits of this program to Hardy County. In addition Mr. Max Park thanked Mr. Dave Workman for the work of the Extension Service and Mr. Whetzel thanked the House Education Committee for their passage of the Funding Bill and the support of the HCEA for its passage.
