SUMMARY

 

Agenda Items:

 

The monthly financial update was provided by Mrs. Veeta Burgess.  Included was financial records and review of current fiscal conditions of the county.  Projected deficit remains approximately the same.  Also included was a presentation on actual transportation cost and the projected impact of the fuel increase.

 

The Board approved completion of Budget transfers and supplements for the remainder of the 2007-2008 school year, required IRS revisions to Policy #DDD – Payroll Procedures and approved Travelers Insurance Agendy to handle casualty insurance for the school system.

 

Policy #IGB – Exam Policy was approved as presented.  Develepment of a form and procedure for approving alternate educational activities will be prepared in the fall.

 

The Annual Fire Marshalls Report and response was presented and approved.

 

Additional information on the equipment requirements for the School Access Safety Grant will be brought to the next meeting.

 

Filter Bids request were approved and will be sent out.

 

An update on the work of the Five Year Plan Steering Committee was presented along with a schedule for Board review and approval.

 

The Board approved requesting the West Virginia Department of Education to provide technical assistance requirements for addressing the deficit and requirements for reconfiguring East Hardy Early Middle School.

 

Public Comment:

 

Mr. Larry Salyers addressed the Board regarding the procedures for the Superintendent’s evaluation and contract.

«          Head Teacher – Moorefield Intermediate School/Moorefield Middle School – Must have three years successful teaching experience and meet minimum standards for teaching certification as set forth by the WVDE in Minimum Standards for Licensure of WV School Personnel (Policy 5202) for the subject and grade level assigned.  Masters degree preferred.  Will have six additional days, $800.00 base pay, and a $600.00 index supplement per year.  Primary responsibility will be discipline, attendance, and other duties as assigned by the principal.  Experience with WVEIS Attendance is preferred, effective August 19, 2008.

«          Continued Posting – Countywide Speech/Language Pathologist – 200-day employment term.  MA/MS in Speech Pathology.  Prefer individual with ASHA CCCs.  Can provide CFY supervision.  May be eligible for National Board supplement with County matching supplement.

«          Music – Moorefield Middle School/Moorefield High School – ½-time position.  Must be certified to teach Music grades 5-12.

«          Extracurricular Bus Run – from East Hardy High School to Moorefield to EWVCTC, MMS, then to SBVCTC to East Hardy High School – must be able to meet regular bus schedule within the school year.  Leaves EHHS approximately 11:30 a.m. and returns to meet regular bus evening run schedule.  $4,000.00 per school year.

«          Assistant Varsity Baseball Coach – East Hardy High School

«          Assistant Varsity Boys’ Basketball Coach – Moorefield High School

«          Athletic Director – Moorefield High School, 203-day employment position beginning July 1, 2008.  WV Teacher Certification, three years experience as a coach desired.

«          Team/Coaching Assistants for Fall Sports (formally known as “volunteer” coach):  Must have a high school diploma, background and reference check, and completed the WVSSAC First Aid and coaching training for those applying who are not professional educators.  These trainings must be completed before applying and being hired for the assignment.  Must be eligible for a coaching license through the WVDE, and is responsible for all cost associated with the license.  Previous coaching experience is also required.  This individual works directly under the Head Coach and will be responsible to the principal of the school, or designee.  Minimal pay of $1.00 per year/season.  These coaches are limited to the number of paid coaches per sport.

 

The Board also approved the carryover of unused non-work days for Ms. Barbara Whitecotton and Mrs. Rita Walker.

 

Mission Statement Accomplishments:

 

The Board Members and Administrative Staff extended appreciation to Mr. Ray Funkhouser and Mr. Max Park for their service and dedication to the students of Hardy County.  Mr. Whetzel presented a plaque recognizing them for their work as Members of the Hardy County Board of Education.

 

The next meeting of the Hardy County Board of Education is schduled for 7:00 p.m. at the Hardy County Board of Education Office on July 7, 2008.
