The following is provided as an unofficial summary of the above dated meeting of the Hardy County Board of Education. SUMMARY
Presentations:
« LSIC Presentations East Hardy Early Middle Chair, Derek Barr and East Hardy High School Chair Carol Whetzel, made their annual reports. Information included an update on the schools progress in meeting the objectives of their five year plan, AYP status and educational activities. Additional requests were submitted in writing. The Board commended them for their work and success.
Unfinished Business:
A. Policy GBRA Leave Donation The Board approved the revisions to Policy GBRA Leave Donation, to be sent out for first reading.
B. Wetzel County Levy / Non opening of SBA school impact Information was provided to the Board on the Wetzel County Levy and the contract responsibilities with the SBA regarding construction of the new Moorefield Intermediate School.
C. Budget Considerations for 2008-2009 Mr. Ronald Whetzel and Mrs. Veeta Burgess provided a number of items regarding budget considerations for 2008-2009. Information was provided on: enrollment projections, effect of retirements and long term vacancies, effects of scheduling changes, procedures and legal requirements required for transfer and reductions in force and the need to avoid prejudgment in such recommendations, cost for part time personnel, history of administrative staffing, review of other non personnel cost reductions. Additional information and further review will be continued at the next meeting.
Public Comments:
« Mr. Luther Whetzel reviewed the previous meetings discussions on the Comprehensive Educational Facilities Plan and his expectations regarding an excess levy.
« Mr. Brad Simmons reviewed Current Legislative status and addressed RIFs and Transfers.
Mission Statement Accomplishments:
« Mr. Ray Funkhouser congratulated Derek Barr and Carol Whetzel, LSIC Charis, for their fine presentation; noted that we should be proud of how well our schools are doing.
« Mr. Ken Pack extended appreciation to LSICs for their work and the progress being made in the schools.
« Mr. Rick Perkins reported on the West Virginia School Board Association recognition of Mr. Ray Funkhouser for his 38 years of experience as a Board Member. Noted the work of Cassandra Hall, Parent Resource Coordinator, for the MES fourth grade Create a Book activity.
« Mr. Max Park commended on the need to support and promote community involvement in future facility planning.
« Mrs. Sharon Hammer thanked Mr. Doug Boswell for his work with the MHS Tennis team.
« Ms. Barbara Whitecotton commented on the tremendous work being done by the Central Office staff in addressing personnel needs.
« Mr. Ronald Whetzel noted the outstanding success and educational activities as presented by the LSICs. This is reflective of the continued focus of our school system on student achievement.

« Bus Operator Special Education Run to meet a bus at Mill Creek Ruritian Club, a portion of Rt. 220 North, Reynolds Gap Road with minor extensions and deletions, effective March 19, 2008. This position will be posted for five (5) day only; once filled, all bus operators currently filling positions as substitutes, will return to their regular positions.

« Cafeteria Manager / Cook III MIS transfer effective at the opening of the MIS building, expected opening date Fall/Winter of 2008-2009 school year, 202 days for the 08-09 school year, and 205 days thereafter, unless a current cafeteria manager transfers into this position.
« Cook III MIS transfer effective at the opening of the MIS building, expected opening date Fall/Winter of the 2008-2009 school year, normally a 200 day employment term or for the remainder of the 08-09 school year, and 200 days thereafter.
« Cook II MIS transfer effective at the opening of the MIS building, expected opening date Fall/Winter of the 08-09 school year, normally a 200 day employment term or the remainder of the 08-09 school year, and 200 days thereafter.
« Custodian IV MIS transfer effective at the opening of the MIS building, expected opening date Fall/Winter of the 2008-2009 school year, normally a 240 day employment term, or the remainder of the 08-09 school year, and 240 days thereafter.
Postings: Professional Educators Moorefield Intermediate School:
Preference has been voted and will be given to those teachers currently serving the students in
Grades 3, 4 and 5 at the affected schools.
« Physical Education Moorefield Elementary School/Moorefield Intermediate School Grades K 5. For the 2008-2009 school year.
« Intermediate Special Education Teacher Moorefield Intermediate School Grades 3 5 MI/LD/BD for the 2008-2009 school year. Will accept willingness to obtain all three certifications.
Continued Posting: Extra Duty Assignment:
« Two (2) Extra Duty Assignment Cooks II Two (2) Cook II positions for one week, Camp Echo, Petersburg, West Virginia, to provide all meals for Williamstown Elementary School Outdoor Program, contract basis with Hardy County Schools. This time frame is April 28, 2008 through May 2, 2008. Up to 56 total hours of employment for this assignment, however, regular employees must be able to meet the schedule. This position may be eligible for overtime under FSLA and is not to exceed three (3) hours per day overtime as applied, based on hourly/overtime rate.
