Brief History
Hardy County was created from Hampshire County in 1786, and named for Samuel Hardy, who was a well-known Virginian. Lost River State Park and part of the George Washington National Forest are in the eastern section of this County.

Leading Industries and Agricultural Products
The leading industries in this county are lumber, cabinet manufacturing, and poultry production and processing. The chief agricultural products consist of hay and grain, livestock, dairying, and poultry products.

County Seat
The county seat of Hardy County is Moorefield. Moorefield was chartered in 1777 and named for Conrad Moore, who owned the land upon which the town was formed.
