Comprehensive Educational Facilities Plan
What is the status of the Hardy County CEFP? The plan was developed in the spring of 1999 and approved that fall. Extensive meetings were held throughout the county with many opportunities for employee, parents and community input. The current plan has been reviewed and reaffirmed by the Hardy County Board of Education in September 2001.
Can I get information on the CEFP? Yes, the entire plan is available for review at the Hardy County Board of Education office.
What are the basic components of the plan? A brief summary of the plans for each school include:
East Hardy Early/Middle School: Additional classroom may be required due to population growth. Recommends continued maintenance.
East hardy High School: In need of renovation, especially mechanical (HVAC) systems. Exterior and interior renovations are needed.
Moorefield Elementary School: A separate cafeteria from the multipurpose room is needed. Committee recommended that the school should be changed to a PK-2.
New Moorefield Intermediate School: Construction of a new Intermediate School on the site of the current Middle School. The school would house grades 3-5.
Moorefield Middle School: Address the overcrowding the school is experiencing through the construction of an Intermediate School to house grade 5.
Moorefield High School: Part of the building is at the end of its useful life. The overall site is very restrictive. Review of the situation to determine, within the next 3-5 years, rather to remove and replace the old section, or build new facilities.
Board of Education
Office: The building is nearing the end of its useful life. Consider moving to another facility if one becomes available.
What are the immediate
plans for the county?
In October a request will be forwarded to the School Building Authority
for additional renovation work to EHHS mechanical systems, replacement of
lockers, and possibly work to address water problems.
In January a request will be forwarded to the School Building Authority
for funds to construct a cafeteria at MES.
Both of these are identified in the CEFP.
What are the long-range
plans for the county?
The Hardy County Board of Education has gone on record to review the
school systems overall needs, seek additional community input, and develop a
comprehensive plan to address all of the facility needs.
This may include a request to run a local Bond to provide funds that can
be used to match School Building Authority funds, for projects they will
approve. Local funds, raised
through the Bond, could be used to address facility needs that the School
Building Authority will not support.
