Report Cards
What is a
“Parent Report Card”? No,
it is not a grade on how well you may be doing as a parent!
It is a new activity designed to promote parent involvement.
A “Report Card” will be made available for every parent in grades
Kindergarten through Twelfth who is interested. In the report card you will find a list of 16 activities that
a child and parent can do together. When
10 of these activities have been completed the parent signs the report card and
returns it to the school.
What are the types
of activities? They cover a
wide range and are designed to promote active positive interaction between a
child and their parent. Some of
these include: Having your child visit a work-site, either where the parents
work or another site of their choice; visiting a local library and signing up
for a library card, encouraging your child to become a member of a school club
or organization, or setting aside 15 minutes a day for 30 days to read to your
child and/or help you child with school work.
How will I get my
copy of the Report Card and when is due back?
In the near future a copy will be sent home with every child in grades K
– 8. High school parents may
request a copy through the principal’s office.
There is no deadline on when it has to be returned.
Whenever you have completed 10 of the activities simply sign and return
to the school principal.
What are the
benefits?
The most important benefit is the opportunity to spend time with your
child and jointly participating in an educational activity.
However, there is more. Benefits
include:
- A
decal/bumper sticker stating, “I’M A HONOR ROLL PARENT OF HARDY COUNTY
SCHOOLS” will be sent home.
- A
listing of all Honor Roll parents will be maintained at each school and the
Board of Education office. At
the end of the school year the list will be published in the Moorefield
Examiner.
- Tokens
of recognition will be given to the parents. These include a certificate and one of the following: a
coupon discount book for local businesses or a family pass to selected
academic or athletic events.
How is this
program being funded?
The Parent Report Card program is being supported by the Hardy County
Board of Education and co-sponsored by the Family Issues Task Force coordinated
by Tammy Gilhuys. Appreciation is extended to this organization for their
continuing efforts to improve the lives of families in Hardy County.
